Default Street Bob Bagger completed (mostly)

First off, thank you to all of the people who offered info and advise as I was trying to decide how I wanted to do this.

I recently came back from a 2500 mile ride and the bike got damaged in the trailer. Insurance did its job and gave me a reason and some cash toward doing a dyna bagger setup.

While not "quick detach," this setup takes about 30 minutes to completely remove and go back to a lo profile solo seat, stripped bobber setup. My intent is to use the bagger setup for long rides and crappy / colder weather to extend my season.

So far, I'm pretty happy with it. The Cyclevisions bagger tail kit is well made, just pricey. The nice part though is that the bags are properly supported and they sit about as close as you can get. I am setup for the HD quick detach sissy bar but I just don't have it on in these pics.

Memphis shades batwing is well made and relatively inexpensive. Their mounts work well but unfortunately are left on the bike when you remove the fairing. Easy enough to remove the mounts as well and aren't that obtrusive when left on the forks but not as clean as the Harley clamps. I may work on modding the fairing to use the clamps down the line.

I used the Memphis shades 2330-0017 batwing on my street bob due to the 7" fatboy style head light I hd installed. What I didn't expect was that the new riser I used that raised and pulled back the larger head light made the fairing impossible to fit. Simple fix just switching to the old riser which I still had.

I also took the time to swap out my kury forward controls with the HD dyna footboard kit. I like the kury forwards but my right side peg kept loosening up on me and the hardware was corroding pretty bad over the past 4 years. Footboard kit was pretty straight forward to install. I did not swap out the lever the shift linkage attaches to as that would have meant tearing open the inner primary. I simply mounted up the kit to the stock lever and used a hacksaw on the old mid mount spline. I'd been meaning to get rid of the spline for about 4 years now but never got around to it.

All in all, bike handles pretty much the same. Although the footboards take a little adjustment to get used to but I can now easily stand up going over obstacles which was impossible with the forwards. It is amazing how much a fairing cuts the fatigue even over a windshield.

I know dyna baggers can be controversial posts so lets preempt a couple questions here.

1. I know it doesnt look as sexy as a stripped bobber. Thats why its reversible relatively easily for when I don't want convenience.

2. Why didn't I just buy a bagger. I wanted a dyna. I'd love a street glide but I don't have an extra $20K sitting around for a 2nd bike and I'm not selling my street bob. This way i have both functions.

3. I know, a fatter tire would look much better. Once this tire is worn I'll be looking into it.

If anyone has any questions let me know. It really is a simple mod.

Excellent Job! I like the look of it a lot. What mount's did you use for the bag's?

And where did you get that "battery cover bag"

No need to apologize for it not being a Street Glide - there's a million of them out there
Your bike has character and is different. Looks good Congrats!

While I'm not a fan of the way a fairing looks on a Dyna (or really any bike, for that matter) that looks like a really nice setup. I bet its great for long rides.

Thank you.

Bags are from CycleVisions dyna bagger-tail kit. Their mount puts a bracket under the seat, supports that go under the bags and attach to the side fender struts and then attach behind the rear fender. This keeps everything supported properly like on the touring bikes and keeps the bags from flexing in toward the wheel. You then have to buy their bag lowers which have cutouts for the shocks. I've seen some guys with fiberglass skills modify standard bags to fit but I've never laid fiberglass before. Lids are standard ebay lids with the arlen ness parts kit holding it all together and an ebay latch cover on top.

Battery bag is from Bad&g customs. Comes in handy especially when I have the bike stripped down. I keep a leather bandana, phone charger, ziplock bags for my phone / wallet, air filter sock, and a couple bungies in it. Keeps me prepared for the rain storms.

I'm actually with you on that. I much prefer the look of bobbers. My main push for the fairing was that I wanted bags that could actually hold something for long trips and the narrow front end just looked really odd when the bags were fattening up the rear.

Havent done long trips yet but just riding to work and back is nice. Especially being able to carry anything I need and lock it up.

Yeah, CV kit is pricey. Retail is $300 for the mount and then about $400 for each lower bag. You can find them cheaper online some places but honestly not that much cheaper.

I wouldnt have spent the money if I wasnt using insurance repairs to help out.

It looks great! Nothing beat the CV kit, nice and clean.
I wonder if they ever make a longer fender, may look even better.

CV set up just puts the bags to far out from the bike for my taste. You still have quite a bit of room to get the bags closer to the bike and not cover up your detach mounts. But all in all it looks good bro, definitely a fat tire and a longer fender and filler panels would set it off real good.

I fit a 2009 Street Glide fender on my 08' Bob, took a little massaging the struts out but it goes on and off without forcing it to. Plus it sits low on the bike and yeah I plan on going with a fatter tire soon too.
