you shouldn't lose any power, but you wont really feel a gain either, as stated before, your getting more air out with the TH, but your not getting more air in without a hi flowing Air Cleaner (A/C) i have the outlaw AC from DK customs and i like it, easily the least expensive one available and it looks good, atleast with the style i'm building.
That TH is capable of moving serious amounts of air though, when you do put the AC, get it tuned quickly, cause your bike will be overly lean (they come slightly lean from the factory to conform to emissions, damn emissions control)... A lean bike will run hotter, and be bad for your motor... as if our Air Cooled motors dont get hot as enough as it is, an overly lean bike will be ridiculously hot
Since an engine is just an air pump, why bother to improve the outflow without improving the inlet. The improvement in performance would be minimal. Best bet would be to install the air cleaner, exhaust, tuner and map at the same time if you are looking for results.
^^^^
This.
OP,
By installing the TH alone, you're doing nothing for your bike's performance other than making the exhaust note louder. In order for your bike to run properly, the fuel management system needs to be fine tuned for the TH and your new air intake, otherwise it is not going to perform at an optimal level.
Do yourself a favor, and wait until you have the money to do the modification properly. My 2 cents.
I rant t-header for a summer with stock air cleaner and no tune. You'll be fine. Had a little lowend tq dip but nothing bad. I will say that after rising it that way for one year when I had it tuned right it made a hole new bike.
If I were u I'd run it. Save some money then do air filter and cam together and get it tuned.
