I have a lot of respect for everyones opinion.
I'm sure most have seen the Winter "Enthusiast" mag with the Nightster on the cover.
I'm not going to bother to go the the site to check the specs of the Nighster relative to the other sportsters.
I'm sure this ride handles better than most - but look at the pic if you have it (sorry - no scanner here or I'd post it) - the guy looks like he's on a minibike - bad marketing by HD.

ORIGINAL: SPECIAL ED

"Id out grow the Sporty in a year"
In a word Bull, The idea that you'd out grow a bike that is lighter, quicker, faster, and better handling than anything Harley makes short of a Vrod or Buell is ludicris. Now, if a wideglide is what you really want than you will really not be happy with anything else. These bikes are really expensive and resale value is not what it once was so if you don't get the one you want to start with it can be a really expensive mistake.
Agree with special - I luv the Sportsters;great value - decent resale and loads of fun to ride.My best freind has a 1200R and it is one nasty fast, nimble ride! My work partner rode his 1200R to Sturgis, no problem. And the new Nightster - WOW! did they nail it or what?

I like the dynas but have had sportys for the last 20 yrs. I'm 5'6" about 200#(and falling) so the XLs fit me fine, so would a Dyna. The two have similar looks so get what you like and dont listen to that out grow stuff. Congrats on your time, I never went to Korea but spent 2 years in Germany. I got out in 84 and bought a 64 XLCH ahh the good old days

When you are looking for a pure, classic MOTORCYCLE look, you can find it by looking SGC or even more LR (IMHO). Classic look with out any style effects like WG and SB have. I’m NOT telling they are not great looking bikes. They are, but different ways. I think that when the bike has the basic look (SGC, LR), people kind of feel neutral of the look. It’s easier to love the look of WG or SB, but also easier to hate. I just hope you catch my idea, other vice I will be shot by the dawn ;-)

As you can see from the photo, I like the classic look ;-)

Hi again Machpilot. You might be a few inches taller and 40 lbs. heavier than me and I'm perfectly comfortable on my '03 FXDWG. It's like cruising around in my favorite recliner. I never feel like I'm having to wrestle her whether cruising on the highways (it glides) or doing stop and go city riding. I'll never forget the look on the salesman's face when he asked me "How long have you wanted a Harley?" and I answered "since the sixth grade." I was then 47 years old. I had been riding a Kawasaki for over a decade though..... I just had to wait a long time to get my first Harley. I've never regretted it and I'm sure you won't either. Congratulations on whatever you decide.

If the wide glide is what you want then just get it. I have an 02 with 72k on it and love it. As others have said, it is expensive to trade so just get what you want, you won't be sorry, ---jack
