On mine when your cruising and you lean your head down towards the primary side i can hear a whirling kinda whining sound but if you pull the clutch in it stops. If it was the tensioner wouldnt you still hear it since the chain is still spinning at the same speed? Or does the chain tighten up when the clutch os out and under load? Can the adjuster be backed off manually or is it self adjusting only?
Not the ipb if it's not making noise at idle in neutral clutch out. Usually an issue with the tensioner is it being too tight and most noticeable at a stop idling when hot. But it's possible if the bike is quiet enough going down the road you could be hearing the chain being too tight when under load. It's kind of strange that it goes away with the clutch in. I don't see it being a problem with the clutch. Nothing in the clutch is turning or doing anything with the clutch out. It's when you pull the clutch in that the plates seperate, the basket turns seperate from the hub and the hub bearing is turning.
Well there is no noise at idle in neutral, and there is also no noise once I pull in the clutch, and there is no noise at when stopped at idle. The noise is only apparent when I'm moving and under a load. Also just for reference I'm running v&h short shots so the noise I'm hearing is pretty loud to be heard over the pipes down the road.
Could the chain tensioner create a noise only under a load, that goes away once the clutch is engaged?

That's pretty much what mine used to sound like, now I feel like it's gotten louder. It might be my imagination or I'm just paying more attention now. I don't have to lean forward to hear the noise anymore, it's loud and noticeable as long as I'm on the throttle. The more throttle the louder it gets.

See im in the same boat. I dont know if mine has always done this or if i hear it now because im trying to hear it. If that makes sense. But either way we both seem to have the same exact issue. I guess for now im going to keep riding it and try not to really beat on it (not that i do but i get on it once in a while) and see if it gets louder and if so worry about it over the winter if it doesnt get bad. I also only have 3500 miles so i cant imagine i could have any major problems since my bike is always maintained. Obviously parts do fail but if i worry about it too much i wont ride it as much and thats pointless to even have a bike at that point. If you find a problem or any more info on the issue please keep me informed as i will do the same
