Default Need some assistance!

Alright riders, I am currently on deployment and I purchased the bike in 2012 from a HD dealer its a 1999 FXDX, had it go to the shop not to long later because the roller bearing was egg shaped and making a crazy pinging noise. Come to find out the engine Top End is a Zippers (No clue on the CI) with the S&S Carb and Intake and some non-stock pipes. That is as far as I know on the mods. The dealer doesn't know jack about what was done so I turn to you guys.

Any wrenches opinion would be helpful. But what should I check, have done, measure, do, powercommand, etc. to this bike to make sure its running what it should be at. I am new to Harley, but my past ricerockets gave me the basic knowledge. Dyno/tune I know is probably what I will have to do to gauge the possible bore (without disassemble) and HP and TQ readings. Then have a flash put on the chip for the results.

I haven't used a power commander but would that be just about the same? While allowing me to alter settings based on performance needs. Like I said im pretty sure its a 107" engine based on the two blue compression release buttons. So that being said im sure a tune will probably make it run much better.

So secondish question I have is what standard mods should be made to the Twin cam bottom end, oil, etc that may help me out here? Should I change out Cams? Get a newer Oil Pump (as it seems oil was what caused the initial problems), or oil cooler.

I know its probably hard to tell since I have no clue on the set up and you cant really see it but im just looking for like the basics that everyone is like "Yeah I would definitely upgrade this or that".

Semper Fi,
Sgt E

First off, Thank you for your service.

The bike is a 99 so I am going to assume it was not upgraded to EFI and is still running carb as you stated its an S&S carb. EFI tuners will not help you at all on your bike. It would be a rejet of the carb. Even with Compression Releases this does not mean its a 107 just a high compression motor of something probably in the 10.5:1 range or higher. The cylinders should have a part # on them somewhere. You can look it up by that. You could have a compression check done on it to figure out what compression its running. This is kind of the set back from buying someone elses project thats not documented. You dont know whats in it . Unless you are dying to know whats in it I would say have it tuned by a shop and ride it.

Wow its been a while since i've been with the bike... Yeah its not EFI so I'll look at a rejet kit, or to see if there is a shop to do that for me around where I live. It is tough because I would love to know what is on it. I thought I searched the entire can for a serial number but didnt see anything. I will have to try again when I get back. Appreciate the input!
