Some real fine fabbin' there; like them a lot...time and skill to make what you want work
Thanks, It did take ALOT of time, fitting everything just right, prob a month in spare time for the first side, and about a week for the second. Then put 'em all together for a 200+ mile ride last weekend, to make sure there were no probs (I did have to trim a little more for the boots on the shocks). then strip 'em back apart for paint, polish and put em back on for a 3 day trip to the Dragon (http://www.tailofthedragon.com/) this weekend.
I love watching people with the ***** to fabricate and come up with new ideas. I cannot see your brackets fully in the picture but if you are going with the longer rear fender, I would suggest connecting the bottom of your bag brackets together with a bracket hidden inside the rear fender.

You would be surprised at how sturdy the brackets are, but still if I add filler panels I will prob add another reinforcement to the rear, to prevent any rubbing.
I finally painted the bags, installed 10" apes, then changed the shocks to Progressives 412's, and added a Saddlemen Explorer seat. Next will be quick release sissybar and RG fairing, and a solo seat when the OL stays home. The ride and looks are getting there, lots more mods planned as time allows. My granddaughter approves
That bike looks great!! If I had those skills I'd make my own as well. Alas, I don't. So to the OP; did you take a look at the Cyclevisions bag mounts for a Dyna or was it a "I can make this myself so why bother" kinda thing.
I'm really considering the Cyclevisions mounts for my 02 FXD because I have a spare set of touring bags.
Nomadmax, the Cyclevision kit is nice, however it doesn't work with stock hardbags, they offer a set of bottoms that have the notch for the shock, all for a pretty penny.
Ndfastln, you did a great job on those bags!!!!! Do you happen to have any pics of the process you used when bonding the bag an pipe together. I ask because I orignally use the ABS epoxy and it didn't hold up. Yours seems to be doing well, so I would like to see how you applied it.
And a plus one on the support bar from side to side, makes the brackets just that much more rigid.
