Unhappy 2012 FXDC leather saddle bag mounting

I have 2012 Super Glide Custom. Just moved the rear turn signals with the "relocation kit" today. (68733-02A) I now noticed I need the "Recess covers" part #47531-06 to cover over the holes where old position WAS.
Now bought a nice pair of used (90369D) leather HD saddle bags off EBay.
Will my 2012 FXDC need any special mounting hardware for UP & INSIDE/ BEHIND the REAR FENDER to mount the pair of saddle bags? I noticed there is a strip of metal with a spacer on each end of strip now. Mounting bolts and spacers will come with bags. But inside fender not sure.
Anybody with same sitiuation please respond.
Thank you

Not sure if this will help but there should already be a bracket inside the fender with threads in it. I have custom fit saddlebags on mine (same bike as you) and I drilled holes in the back of the bag then ran threaded rod into the bracket behind the fender and I have 2 nuts inside the bag holding them on. I did not have to relocate the turn signals though.

That strip of metal will have threads on the forward holes only

I see what you mean, I did not realize my turn signals were already relocated. That saved me from the headache you are having. Mine already had the strip if metal behind the fender with threads on both ends.

You can use the OEM metal strips behind the fender again but you will have to either use a lock nut for the rear bolt on the inside of the fender or else invert the bolt so the nut is on the inside of the saddlebag, the same way the turn signal bolt was originally installed. Remember though if you put the nut on the inside of the fender, make sure your tire has clearance.

Two tips - do one side then the other so the fender stays aligned.
Jack the rear end up by the frame so it gives you more clearance to work.

There is a kit you can buy that will have threaded holes on both ends of the new brackets but it costs around $40.00 including new bolts and covers for the rear (2) holes on the struts, but the bolts might not be long enough for the added saddlebags.
Hope this helps.

Thank you all for the great tips. Looks like I need to wait for bags to get here and pick best option. At least the signal lights are relocated. Funny how a simple thing always turns into a much bigger project.

If you have a 3/8" by 16 pitch tap, you can just tap threads in the rear tube of the oem metal strip (we call it a nut plate). The hole is just the right size for that tap.

Keep ridin'
