When I was shopping for a bike and was trying to decide between a Dyna and a Softail, one of the things that appealed to me about the Dyna is that they're far less common, at least around here.
From my non-scientific observations I'd say Street Glides, Night Trains, and Heritages were the most common bikes I saw at Sturgis this year. Dynas in general were relatively scarce, and most of the ones I saw were Street Bobs or older Wide Glides. I only noticed a handful of Super Glide Customs.
Here's a toast to all the people who don't automatically jump on the latest fashion bandwagon (baggers), like lemmings running off a cliff.
40 years ago, Harleys were very much a statement of non-conformity (with the exception of police bikes). Now, I guess it's more about conformists trying to posture as non-conformists. Put the pre-tied doo-rag on your head, load the bags up with a two-day supply of Depends and an espresso maker, and try to hit the road as a bad-***.
I noticed the same thing last weekend and it didn't bother me one bit! I was looking pretty hard and only noticed 3 other Switchbacks all weekend .. makes me happy to stand out in the crowd.. Also makes me not want to get a streetglide.....
Yes!
I took a panoramic video at a motorcycle friendly roadhouse bar/restaurant.
It was easy to see the FLD.
Jus sayin
My Dyna handles best of all worlds, Dyna handling and performance, handles the multiple climate changes a 250-300 mile day trip you can experience here in SoCal, triple digits in the desert, high 80's in the mountains, brisk foggy coastal for the evening ride home. On any given ride the temperature can swing 30 degrees so that you leave the house with a long sleeve T shirt, strip down to short sleeves and fingerless gloves for the day, and a leather and full gloves for the ride home.
I get a ton of double takes and positive comments.

Dyna and bagger riders are close to the same in how you described them. Most Dynas stay within 25 miles of home cause they can't haul enough to stay comfy. That and they are crap for long distances. I had to do lots of changes so I could do the long hauls. To be honest it was the great deal on the bike and not the look and for sure not the ride.
