So I took off my primary cover of my 98 FXD because I wanted to experiment with plasti-dip on it. Well, when I took it off, all the fluid leaked out. I wanted to know what I should do before I put it back on. New gaskets? What fluid to put in and how much? Thanks so much for all the help.

Go ahead and pull the drain plug and just do the normal primary oil change per HD SM. I would reuse the primary gasket if it is not too old - clean and inspect.
The manual tells you how much fluid to put in but if you put 700cc in you won't be too far short of the mark.....unless you mean the round derby cover in which case it now has the right level in it if its up to the bottom of the hole.
Use a Hypoid oil of around 75W90...I use Valvoline Duragear.
Didn't this happen a few months back with the same primary or derby cover debate? Or was it just a bad dream
No, not a bad dream. It comes up on the general forum about three or four times a year, as well as here on the dyna forum. I still don't know if the OP was talking about his primary cover or derby cover.
