Default 12V Garage Door Opener

I came across this link on 128auto's thread (http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/p...,p,208,00.html) and I had the same exact opener sitting in the garage in a drawer and thought what the heck. I haven't done the opener wired to the high beam because I just didn't like it and every thread I came across still had the battery in the opener. So if you ran with the high beam on you will be draining the opener battery. I wasn't down with taking the dash off just to change the garage door opener battery.

So the website above somebody wired in a 12V opener to the bike and I was like hell yea. I didn't know they made a 12V opener till I read that link. If you have an opener with the A23 battery it's a 12V. Now the opener is hardwired to the bike and is only engaged when I press the button and the ignition is on. After an hour and a half worth of work taking my time and burning my fingers, cutting my toe open on my jack I'm happy with the outcome. Probably would have took an hour if I didn't grab the metal part of the soldering iron or wear flip flops in my garage....lol!!

Parts:
Harley Speedo Reset button, Part # 67854-98
Harley Speedo Reset Boot, Part # 67880-94
22 gauge wire
JST plug set for remote control cars (from the hobby store)
Opener

Wired the Speedometer reset button to the middle button of the opener. Make sure you don't let the solder get to high. Keep it below the frame around the button. Otherwise it will just stay on like someones finger is resting on the button. I used the battery to test it. Re-soldered lower and it was good to go.

Here's with the RC car wires soldered to the battery terminals. You don't need the RC plug but I used for the disconnect capability. I cut off a little of the plastic to run the power wires out of the side.

Since I moved my ignition to the dash I couldn't tape it to the dash, so I taped it to the fuel cover plate or whatever it's called. Spliced the other end of power to the ignition wire and ground on the speedo harness. I had to grind a little bit of the opener casing to fit better. Used double back foam tape to make it a little more secure.

Drilled a hole on the right side of the dash and done.

Thanks and yes the button is the right button. Really you can put it on what ever side you want if you give yourself enough wire. I figured I would have my clutch in when I pull up so my right had would be free to press it.

Nice work. I wanna do something similar to this, except tie it in to the horn switch. It will open the GD and let the ol' lady know it's time to make me a glass of tea and get dinner ready, lol.

Default What the?...

Guys HELP! Okay, Installed the garage door opener exactly as described in the video using the horn button and I think there is something wrong. When I hit the horn button twice not only does the garage door NOT open but the front door on my house locks on me!?! I must have the wiring mixed up er something.
