I too went from a 97' 883 Sportster to a 05 Dyna Superglide. I loved the Sporty and thought of making it a 1200 but the being blown out on the highway by big trucks and gusts of wind was no fun. The Sporty with its higher of center of gravity will prepare you well on how to ride. Thus the Dyna will seem much easier to ride with its lower center of gravity. Also two up it ismuch better. My wife is very small and even then it was tight on the Sporty. On the Dyna that extra 1-1/2" -2" makes all the difference. Good luck on the Trade in. You won't regret it.

ASuperglide is a lot more bike for just a little more money. I moved from an 883 to a Superglide two years ago, and have never regretted it.

I rode my 93 883 up until last May when I got the 06 Super Glide. All I can say is youll be amazed in the difference in the ride. The 883 was my first bike ever and I just couldnt get rid of it. Try this. Ride the sportster and then demo a dyna and youll see for yourself. Good luck.

My son bought an 05 Sporty 1200C back in 2005. He loved it around town and for short trips but he complained about being bounced around with crosswinds and wind from trucks when riding on the NJ Turnpike. He traded it in for a SG and loves it. Much better on the highways due to center of gravity and weight. He said the SGfeels real solid on the highway.
He said he felt like he was in a race riding the Sporty on the turnpike, but felt more laid back on the SG.
I noticed that the rider sits high on the frame on the Sporty even with changing the seat.
I think the seat height is higher than the SG.
I think you'recradledlower in the frame of the SG.
If you like the sporty then stay with it, but I don't think you would make a mistake should you decide to go with the SG.

I have two Sportsters and love them both, They are great for running around town, Very lite n flickable. I also have a Dyna Street Bob and it is without a dought way better traveling down the open road. Im not blown around near as much by trucks. The heavy bike gets down the road better,
The Sporty is better around town.

I went form a 04 Roadster..to a 06 Wide Glide...Loved the Sporty but took a Wide Glide for a ride at the local dealer...Rode about 2 blocks and knew I had to have one...The difference in the ride is unbelievable..I have no regrets whatsoever on trading in the Sporty

I'm about 6' 200lbs.
My first bike was a 2006 883L
I had it for 900 miles and realized I needed something bigger pretty quickly so I traded to a 2006 Street Bob

From my first ride on the Bob, I knew I had made the right choice.....sure I was a little worried about the size and weight at first, but I got used to it very quickly. The Bob felt like a cadillac compared to the sporty. Much more stable and less of the getting blown around by the wind.

do it! you wont regret it.

IMHO you could not go wrong in investing in a Super Glide. As I saw in a few previous posts, you get a damn nice upgrade for a a few more bucks. Sure the extra weight will take some getting used to standing still but you'll love the stability when your moving along.

Trust me, I went from a 380 pound crotch rocket to my 07 Super Glide and the weight did take some getting used to in all aspects but it was definitely worth the transition.

Get any one of the Dynas. I just started riding last year. I bought an '06Sportster in April and started riding in May after my Riders Edge course. Then in July our power went out and we went to our dealers for something to do, their power was out also, but they still had their '07 model preview going on. My wife saw an '06 FXDI35, 35th Anniversary Superglide, and that was that, we traded in the Sportster on it. Took a beating, but it was worth it. I liked the Sportster, but the Dyna was way smoother and easier to handle, at least to me. I think you will be able to handle it very well. The Dynas are great on the hiway and around town. Good luck on what ever you decide.

Another vote for going Dyna. I rode a 77 XLH for 12 years before I got my 2005 Low Rider. It was a very natural transition as far as riding style and position. The difference in power and ride quality was like going from a model T to a new Cadi. I have no regrets. As far as wind, I get some pretty strong winds where I live 6 months out of the year, and the weight of the Low Rider made a little bit of difference, but not too much. I also have a Windvest on my Low Rider, which helps with the wind. My XLH was bare bones.
