Im installing my stock length progressive springs. I noticed that the progressive spring is longer than stock, and the spacer that came with the progressive is a lot shorter than the stock spacer.
It takes no effort to screw the fork cap back on with the new spring and spacer installed. The spring and spacer sit almost flush with the top of the fork tube. Is this the right length spacer?
If im reading the papers that came with the springs right, This is how they set pre-load?
Before I started it took some measurements to make sure that these springs did not lower the front end.I put it all back together took the measurements again and nothing changed.
I put amsoil 10wt shock therapy in with the new springs.Just pushing the bike forward and pulling the front brake there is a big difference in how the front dives now compared to before the new springs.Tomorrow Ill see how it rides
I have the same part that I used on my fat bob. The typical preload should be 3/4" which means that when the fork oil level is correct, and the spring is in, when you put the pvc spacer on top it should be protruding above the fork tube 3/4 of an inch.
You can go more than 3/4" but shouldn't go more than 1" and not go below 3/4".
Also, when you put fork oil in make sure you are compressing and measuring from the top of the tube. Don't measure by volume.
Also, just to reiterate if your spacers are flush and not protruding out that means either they are too short (which would be really odd if the kit wasn't used), or springs are the wrong length.
I did some looking around on the progressive spring websight and they have the specs for each kit. For the11-1525 they say the spacer is 4.63 and the ones I got are 2 inches at best. I guess ill pull the spring back out and measure the spring to see if its the right length and dia spring. If that checks out ill go get some pvc and make my own spacers
