Default What bars work on my FXDC?

My 2011 Dyna Custom has the stock buckhorn style bars. I've always liked the look but the riding position continually causes bad neck and trap pain in short order. I'm thinking of changing to taller bars to see if that helps, but don't want to spend lots of dollars to just find out.

Anyone know what are the tallest bars that can be installed without changing cables, wiring, and brake hose? Possibly the mini apes that are stock on the Fat Bob? Any suggestions are appreciated. tomp dd50

The flying apes that are on my FXDC work well. This is my 2011. The bike in my avatar and signature is my street glide

Does it have buckhorn or pullback bars?

The stock bars. I called them buckhorns because they look like the buckhorns I had on a Heritage. MOCO may have another name for them...The proper setting is pointed down a bit more. This pic has them rotated forward a bit. I tried them that way and it was worse for me. tp

Default a Thought

Harley sells a riser that moves the bars up one inch and back one inch. For not a lot of money you can experiment if this adjustment makes a difference. Once you start with apes and mini apes. etc. the geometry of your legs to the pegs changes. Then you ned a backrest. Then you need forward controls, etc. Just saying if the only reason you are thinking of switching is muscle pain in upper back and/or shoulders or arms you would be surprised how an inch of height and an inch or so brought closer to you would make you feel.

The attached image is what I consider buckhorns. They are more extreme than the stock bars.
To help with your question, I take it you would like something more along the lines of straighter? Certain Sportster bars would work or factory wide glide bars but I think those are 1 1/4". As for risers, I have seen other posters say 6" risers with the factory pullbacks (buckhorns) are about as far as you could go without changing cables. Hope this helps.

Qdog, yep I agree with the true buckhorns shape compared to the Dynas. Buckhorn was as close as I could come with a description for those who weren't familiar with the custom. My Heritage had true Harley Buckhorns, I installed, and they worked OK on that bike.

Ronnie's online parts shows different oem #s for the FXDC and FXDB, brake hoses. Guess I can go to dealer tomorrow and measure them. Only problem is the Bob has no riders; bars attach to top clamp, where the Custom has short risers on it.

I've heard of 4" risers being used with stock hose and cables. Shoot, it's getting more complicated, the deeper I get into this...

Cycler, that's one hell of a nicely modded Dyna you have there. Not much original but the frame.

Thanks guys for all the great input. I reallyappreciate it.
