Does the hole go all the way through or is it plugged from the factory? Is that the only part number on it? It doesn't show up on the Surdyke, Kutter, or LS1HD sites.

...

The OEM parts finder at Granite State H-D shows the following inner primary covers for 2010 Dynas:

60777-07A INNER COVER ASSEMBLY, FWD, Black Wrinkle, Fat Bob
60789-06B INNER COVER ASSEMBLY, MID, Silver, Super Glide
60790-06B INNER COVER ASSEMBLY, MID, Textured Black, Street Bob, Super Glide Custom
60791-06B INNER COVER ASSEMBLY, FWD, Textured Black, Wide Glide
60800-06B INNER COVER ASSEMBLY, MID, Black Wrinkle, Fat Bob

My 2014 parts catalog is much simpler:

60790-06C INNER COVER ASSEMBLY, MID, Textured Black, FXDC, FXDB
60791-06C INNER COVER ASSEMBLY, FWD, Textured Black, FXDWG, FXDF, FLD

Yeah...uh parts guys are for the most part commissioned paid and sell sell more than they are hey this will fit. Not all are like this but most that I have met or worked with are....on the lower end of caring if a part fits. If you ask the service manager you are doing your fellow techs a favor by keeping him busy and off their asses, and getting proper info.

Here's a pic of the 'retro fit' that's required for pre-2014 models, which is kind of questionable (you glue the plastic piece on and put a metal clip to hold it in place). Your 2014 outer primary cover already has this cast in.

If I were you I would not swap outer primary covers with a pre-2014 bike. Not even sure you can obtain that plastic piece separately from the kit, and if you could, I wouldn't want those parts in my primary cover waiting to vibrate off or break free and cause havoc.

Edit: Apparently you can get the retro-fit kit separately. PN 11100088 MSRP $39.95. But like I said above I'd want a 2014+ outer cover with the cast in oil deflector instead of that mickey mouse plastic tray and metal clip setup.
I thought and have heard from different mechs. that HD went to the SE compensator (instead of the older set up in previous models) in like 2011 or 2012.. is this new "scupper tray" for lack of a better term.. a newly determined requirement to keep the SE compensator properly lubed/cool in the older bikes?

I am planning to replace the clutch and spring on mine when I do a 107 kit (probably an AIM VP series or a scorpion) and was going to change the comp. to an SE, but like I stated, a friend of mine said mine already was an SE thus no need to change it.

And why??? is the MoCo comming out with this wonked out looking cheesey piece? I'd want at least a couple of set screws and a metal pan if I were to do this mod period..

Frank,

You are correct in that the SE compensator is stock in newer models (I believe 2011+). Let's call it the 2011-2013 version for simplicity. It's been around since 2008 and has had a revision or two. It suffers from lack of oil getting to its inner splines which causes fretting and premature failure/noise. In MY 2014, Harley introduced a new SE Compensator, new part #, that this oil tray is for. It's completely redesigned to get oil to its splines.

You can see the new one here: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...in-compensator

I doubt the tray would do anything for your SE compensator that came with your bike.

Back onto the THREAD topic... You NEED to change the inner primary when going from forwards to mids or vice versa.

Don't ask how I know.

Well, not mids to forwards. They make little plugs for them.

Ok so here's what went down... Purchased a new inner primary so I could convert with mid controls. Then I find out from multiple dealerships that a new inner is not needed. I could use my existing. So I bring the bike into the dealership to have the work done. I am told 100% that they definitely do not need the inner primary. Double checked to make sure and I'm good to go. They tell me not to leave it there. I get a call 2 hours later telling me the bike is on the lift and they do in fact now need it. So I drive it down to them. Later in the day when I pick up the bike, I retrieve the parts back. When I do I see that the hole is simply blocked with some epoxy ( about 3mm deep) and could have easily been drilled out. I asked why they didn't just do that as it would have taken them a few minutes but they told me they didn't know why the tech didn't. I had the other inner primary anyways but it could have saved me a car trip and a new IPB. So anyways, they are able to be used so long as you or the tech is willing to drill out the epoxy.

Both my outer and inner primaries are now up for sale if anyone is interested.

2010 Wide Glide 60791-06C INNER PRIMARY HOUSING (black) | GP
2010 Street Bob 60790-06C INNER COVER ASSEMBLY (GY4 & GYM-MID) (textured black) | GN/GV/GX

2010 Super Glide Custom 60790-06C INNER COVER ASSEMBLY (GY4 & GYM-MID) (textured black) | GN/GV/GX

Kind of hard to tell from that since they're all different colors (except for the Street Bob and Super Glide Custom)

I'm not 100% sure, but my research seemed to indicate the models with stock forward controls had inner primary covers that did not have a tunnel/hole where the mid controls would normally go.

I'm interested in finding out for sure. I'll be installing forwards on my new Street Bob and will probably end up replacing the primary cover(s) at some point.
Are you still looking to change to forward controls on your Street Bob. I am looking to go the other way with my FXDWG . . .
Thanks,
Bob
