Default Inner primary question

Can anyone confirm whether the inner primary is the same across the dyna line up, regardless of mids or forward controls? Converting my fat bob with forwards to mids and think I may have needlessly purchased an inner primary. So is a different inner primary for mids needed?

Yes, it has a tunnel for the mid control shifter shaft to go through.

Son of a bitch. Paid money for an inner primary I didn't even need then. Last time I ever take a parts guy at a dealerships word again.

http://www.granitestateharleystore.c...partfinder.htm shows 4 different part numbers for 2010 Dyna inner primary covers.

2010 Fat Bob 60777-07B PRIMARY HOUSING, INNER, BLK WRNKL | GY
2010 Wide Glide 60791-06C INNER PRIMARY HOUSING (black) | GP
2010 Street Bob 60790-06C INNER COVER ASSEMBLY (GY4 & GYM-MID) (textured black) | GN/GV/GX
2010 Super Glide 60789-06C PRIMARY HOUSING, INNER, SLVR | GM
2010 Super Glide Custom 60790-06C INNER COVER ASSEMBLY (GY4 & GYM-MID) (textured black) | GN/GV/GX

Kind of hard to tell from that since they're all different colors (except for the Street Bob and Super Glide Custom)

I'm not 100% sure, but my research seemed to indicate the models with stock forward controls had inner primary covers that did not have a tunnel/hole where the mid controls would normally go.

I'm interested in finding out for sure. I'll be installing forwards on my new Street Bob and will probably end up replacing the primary cover(s) at some point.

I meant, "Yes they are different." I was answering your last question in your post. Sorry to confuse. To run mid controls you need the mid-control inner and outer primaries. Bikes that come with forward controls do not have that tunnel.

Was just looking at the part numbers for the inner and outer primary covers for my 2014 Street Bob and your 2010 Fat Bob. They'd be an even swap since you're going mids and I'm going forwards. Too bad we didn't know this before hand. We could probably have each saved quite a bit of money.

Actually it's a good thing you didn't swap with him. They re-designed the outer primary cover for 2014 to have an integrated channel for getting oil to the (now stock) SE compensator that was also re-designed. Here's a pic of the 'retro fit' that's required for pre-2014 models, which is kind of questionable (you glue the plastic piece on and put a metal clip to hold it in place). Your 2014 outer primary cover already has this cast in.

If I were you I would not swap outer primary covers with a pre-2014 bike. Not even sure you can obtain that plastic piece separately from the kit, and if you could, I wouldn't want those parts in my primary cover waiting to vibrate off or break free and cause havoc.

Edit: Apparently you can get the retro-fit kit separately. PN 11100088 MSRP $39.95. But like I said above I'd want a 2014+ outer cover with the cast in oil deflector instead of that mickey mouse plastic tray and metal clip setup.

Oh I forgot about that. The OEM parts finder substitutes the new part number on the older bikes and notes the update. I completely overlooked that. That's what I get for posting at 1am! The pre-2014 outer primary cover for FXDB is part 60758-06. The 2014 version is 60758-06A.

Good catch!

Ok so now I'm getting confused. Either all the dyna inner primaries are already set to accept mid controls or I just bought the wrong one.

Here is a pic of what I have now. Part number 60681-06A. Is this for forward or mids?
