Is the inner primary still available and if so does it have the hole or is it blocked

Default Newbe doing the same thing .. asking advice

Hi, I see this is an older thread .. but hoping being monitored and may get some needed advice ... I just recently purchased my first H-D but have had other bikes starting in the mid 60's ( yes I am an old fart compared to most here ).

I was 5'9.5" but with age now closer to 5'8" I'm afraid.
Just purchased a very nice ( 2,900 miles ) 2013 Dyna Fat Bob 103 CI etc with Vance & Hines 2 to 1 and HD screaming Eagle Heavy Breather air. I had a few upgrades done ( don't we all : ) including a high quality custom shop flames and HD graphics on the tank etc ..

Sorry you know how us newbies ..

Back on topic:
My bike came with Factory forward controls .. seemed ok in the excitement of shopping .. but doesn't fit my height or riding style.
So I am deep into the project of switching to mid controls .. starting thinking an easy deal .. was I ever wrong !!! and shopping for parts including at the HD dealership .. but preferring my ebay experience of finding great deals .. Been shopping new dealer take offs and other New and really-like-new parts.

So, no actual work done yet but found parts inc the mid controls and inner primary ( two lol ) and a new outer. The outer is denim black not the wrinkle black I want / need. I am considering painting myself with wrinkle black paint .. or have local shop do a powder-coat wrinkle. Also considering the HD peg replacement with the newer mini floorboards .. really 4" square pegs.

I plan to sell on ebay all replaced parts and the extra inner primary I purchased.

What overall advice could you please offer?
Thanks
C Sparks

Smile Conversion to mid controls.

Just completed mid control install on my 2013 Street Bob. The inner primary was just plugged and easily drilled out with 1/2 bit. You will need a shifter shaft bushing to support and seal the shifter lever rod on the inner primary . Also a shift tube gasket. Also called a Tower gaskt. Just look at the part diagram for the inner primary. I did find that 1/2 makes the shift rod quite tight. Would recommend making sure it moves freely before full assembly. I bought a used outer primary on ebay and it already had the outer shaft bushing. You will also need rubber spacer on the outside of the outer primary to protect and position the shift lever. I got everything on E bay. I installed Further foward mid controls and am very satisfied. Also got them on ebay.

My take is that they use the same inner primary across the Dyna line, regardless of foward or mid control.

Now I'm realty confused. I have an 07 street bob bought new. Had it converted to forwards among other things at 1 k service. Ended up with little chrome plug in mid shifter shaft hole. Never thought about what happened to inner primary hole. Fast forward to 09. Crashed and needed new outer primary. Had them install one without shifter shaft hole. Pretty sure they didn't replace inner. So what happened with the hole in the inner ?

on mine we sealed it, does not impact anything... i hated the indent in the primary, was so pointless... but you can see in the last pic my inner still has the opening, the back side is sealed, zero issues at all, inside there is a small gasket that goes around the shaft to keep it sealed. zero issues
