I am installing a set of Kuryakyns on my '03 fxdwgwith stocktubes, and when they are tightened down there is a small gap, like maybe an 1/8" or 3/32" from getting the clamps to completely close up. I tightened them down quite tight, but am afraid of reefing on them and damaging the tubes. Anyone else have this problem?
Also, on the bottom side of the frame, on both sides, just about where a set of footpegs would be on a bike (without forward controls), there are a pair of holes, 3/8" threads, 1 1/2" apart, c to c. Are they there for foot pegs? I am thinking about putting a pair on to be able to change foot positions for long trips. If thats what they are for, is there a bracket that goes there? I would need to get out about 3 1/2" from the frame to clear the exhaust. Floorboards would be best but am not sure there is room without getting into my heel rest on the forward control pegs. Any ideas or help here?
The holes in the frameyou mention are for peg mounts. I installed a set of mid pegs on my 06 Wide glide. They make a real difference on long trips. I can place my feet across the mid and forward pegs. I bought nice, newchrome mounts from an Ebay seller for $50. If you're interested, message me and I'll send you her email address. At the time, she had more pairs.
I have gaps as well. has always been that way. Dealer put it on in first place, but I have had it on and off numerous times... always a little gap in the clamshell
I'm wrong about a lot of stuff, but if there wasn't a gap, they wouldn't tighten up and hold the fork, the clamp faces would just meet and if the tolerance was off just a little on either part, the brace would just slide up or down and not grip ????
Understood Draggin, but even after they are very tight almost to the point of stripping the allen head there is still this 1/8" or so gap making it look abit under sized for the od of the tube. I would think it would tighten up to just touching at that point.
The gap is how they (all mass produced fork braces) are designed. As Draggin S said, if there were no gap, they would not be able to grip the slider. These are basically glorified, round bore, split shaft collars.
The only way to get rid of the gap would be to install a fork brace cover of sorts.
If it is then there may be something wrong. This one fits very snugly around the tubes on my Softail Custom with the only gap being where the two halves of the clamps come together.
