Default Questions re installing exhaust wrap

I'm thinking about installing exahust wrap on my headers. I have seen exahust wrap kits for sale that include high temperature silicone coating which is to be applied to the wrap after installation. I have read about people using high temperature automotive paint instead of the silicone coating, and I've seen wrap jobs that appear to have neither paint nor silicone coating on them.

Is one of these ways better than the other? Does the end result differ based on which method is used? Is the spray on layer (whether high temp paint or high temp silicone) necessary at all?

Obviously I know very little so any input/insight is appreciated.

Thanks.

I have put on 3 sets on other bikes. The coating is just to keep the rain/moisture out. Lots of pros and cons to the wrap that I'm sure you have seen on here. I always wrap mine from the back to the front just to keep the dirt out of the grooves. They will need to be dry before you apply a coating. They will smoke like crazy at first as well.

Actually, the only negatives I've heard about exhaust wrap has to do with those who don't like the way it looks. I would love to hear about any ohter perceived negatives.

Default Wrapping Pipes

The rumor is that it will, over time, crack the pipes because the heat can't dissipate quickly enough.

Go to: www.rbracing.com

There is a write up on why it will crack the pipes. Do you have an excessive heat problem that the wrap will solve or is it just for the looks ?
I almost wrapped my road rage pipe because of the heat but after paying 800 bucks for it, I didn't want to crack it.
