`Bought my `09 FXD with 6500 miles from a dealer back in April of this year. `Had to replace my fork seals at 13K, but that was my fault. I trailered the bike incorrectly by pulling down the straps too tightly on the forks, and putting undue strain on the bottom seals. Be sure and NOT use the front forks for tie downs if you trailer a bike; `learned the hard way. My bike now has nearly 18K on it after going to stage I at 12K. `Runs its *** off. `Gonna put on a head cooler and oil cooler before next summer hits, though.
Bought my 2009 FXD Feb 2009, have had NO problems at all after 24,460 miles of riding. I do not see how someone can buy a bike and barely have it broke in in 4+ years. I average about 5000 miles a year and that is light compared to some the the people I ride with.

I did the same thing but worse. I had my lower legs chromed and put brand new seals in it. I trailered it from Monterey to Bass Lake and ruined my brand new seals. Thought my tech screwed up, but he explained it was my fault. Duh. Expensive lesson!!!

Nice bags on your bike. Does the small front bag get grimy from the road, especially when it rains?

Thanks, but actually the bags are about toast. They are made by leatherworks out of Stockton Ca. and they are very well built. They are also 12 years old and suffer from sag and separation. I am going to stop in on them and see if they can be restored or buy new ones. They run about 500 bucks. The front bag I bought from a Harley Dealer for 25 bucks and use to store bungies. Yea it gets wasted when it rains.

I've had my previous bike & my current FXDC both on a small trailer strapped down & never had an issue. I have used the bottom clamp & the handlebars to tie to and pulled it down hard. Guess I won't be doing that if I ever have to trailer again..
What exactly did you guys due that cause this? Just pulled down too tight?
Just wanting to know so I know for future reference.
Thanks again everyone - pulled the trigger today and couldn't be happier! Find out the bike has security and what I'm gathering are some sort of aftermarket slip ons. I'm new to the Harley world so I'm not sure how to tell what brand.
Anyone have an idea where I can find an owners manual online? I've found the service manual
