Default Winter project '02 FXD

Doing some mods to the bike this winter...nothing too life changing...

The list of winter mods.
Doing Naz_Man's engine painting with a twist...gonna put some Vaseline on the outer ribs of the engine so after its painted I can wipe it away. Apparently my dad did the same thing on his car which gave me the idea. Then I wanna do the same thing to my wheels, with that same ideal. Saw a thread on plasti-dipping the forks, polishing the aluminum, raising the gas tank, and then doing some regular maintenance. (brake pads, fork oil, transmission oil, etc....)

Then a few possible mods/upgrades I wanna do....barring household 6's approval...inc braided lines and forward controls

What I'm starting with:

The initial strip down.

Took of the carb/intake, pipes, battery, horn and bracket, tank, I dont remember what else right now...Tried to take off the fuze box, but ****, that ain't happenin.

Tore some more down, and cleaned the engine up a bit. I was hoping to start taping and have some pictures of a bit more progress, but I forgot to pick up tape when I was out yesterday morning.

My daughter is set to be induced tomorrow morning so I dont know when I can get out to the garage next...but during my stay at the hospital I'm hoping to buy some braided hose and some lines.

Great start/ideas, but if you want lasting quality on your motor paint project...powdercoating's a much better solution (JMO). Your bike/money so look forward to watching your progress.

If you want a visual of black wheels- I just had mine powedercoated and installed them yesterday. Also blacked out fork lowers with Rustoleum appliance epoxy. Nightster headlight bucket and visor.

Trying to save on some cash and give myself some busy-work this winter.
Found a previous thread in which a guy uses the same paint I have. He said after two years it still looks good.

That looks amazing! I'm hoping to do that...only I'm thinking I only want to paint the rough-gray part of the wheels, leaving the more polished aluminum parts...well...polished. Undecided though, I wanna see how the engine painting goes.

My daughter was born a week ago so this went on the backburner....

Along with November come the cold temperatures that I didn't think to factor in...I gotta think of a heating system for the garage so the tape will stick and the paint will dry...

Thinking I might get one of those propane heaters since I have some propane left over from the grill....just not sure about the whole aerosol-open flame thing...So I feel if I go that route I'll have to think of ventilation...

Oh yeah, and I made this:

I've actually considered using your services; just so I know its done correctly and professionally...And knowing you're gonna go up to da UP actually might be good; I'm assuming you'll take 131 north...ideas are flowing...

That would save me the time/hassle of trying to get my garage heated enough for the duration of painting. I'll shoot you a message.

This was a very hard/cold winter. I had a hell of a time trying to heat the garage that wouldn't get me either high or kill me. I hate to say it, but I'm just now getting back around to working on this.

Anyways, I'll get some updates up later this weekend.
