I've spent many years attending bike weeks, more than I can count. Sturgis, Daytona and others no one has ever heard of. I've never heard of a seat being stolen.
I often leave my helmet out (I have a nice modular helmet) and have bungied my leather jacket to the bike and left them and no one has ever tampered with them.
I am trying to picture someone taking a seat off on main street of Daytona with 10,000 people walking on the sidewalk.
If it worries you though, put a torx bolt on it and quit worrying.
Gotta agree with Jonesee, it has been 25 years of parking Harleys at bike weeks, bars, all over the streets of NYC and I have never heard of anyone ever stealing a seat. But now that it has been discussed, it will happen!??!!? I leave my leather and shirts on the bars bungeed down, tools in the tool bag, etc. Never had anything messed with on my bike. But maybe I am just lucky. Tamper proof torx bolt is not going to hurt the bike, but make sure you carry the tool with you on the bike. It would suck to be on the side of the road needed to take the seat off and YOUR tamper proof bolt stops you from fixing your own bike.
It is a great idea and still keeps the honest ones away, but a pair of pliers will take care of that in quick fashion.
Since I don't remove the seat that often I also put a tiny dab of Loctite on the threads to secure the screw a bit more. If I could squeeze my hand under the fender I would even put a nut on the screw for ultimate security!
But you are probably right, for the low-life who really wants something that badly off your bike they'll find a way to mangle/leverage it off regardless of any safeguards put in place. But at least we don't have to make it easy for them!

What's to stop a thief from taking a tail light, headlight, battery or fuse cover, air cleaner, horn cover, plug wires, gas cap and gauge, etc etc. All are easily removed so the best security is keep it stock. Otherwise just have faith.
Most peeps seems to leave Harleys alone ...
Although 2 years back some ****** stole my GPS off my bike at a gas stop on a Texas trip ... I was almost at my final location so it was less then disasterous ...
I didn't start this thread because I want to bash other riders, Yes my question is how to prevent the VERY small amount of dirtbags that F with bikes. I have read somewhere on this forum about a guy that purchased a new seat and came out to find it gone and had to ride home sitting on his jacket. I just want to know how to not make it so easy to lift off the bkrst or take the seat. I said in my op that if they want the bike its gone no matter what. That being said I wont leave my key in the ignition.....
