Its sad whenever we hear about this type of tragedy. We as riders all take a large amount of risk whenever we head out on the road. It doesn't even have to be something that WE do. It's a reality check for sure. Ride Safe!
Used to ride in the dirt from sun up to sun down as a kid, when I was 14 my brother, riding recklessly, hit the back of a truck and was traumatically brain injured.
After about 20yrs I got back in the saddle and bought an 88 fxrs and have had several sense. I see him often as I must shop for him and help pay his bills as well as many other things. It's very sad to see how one bad move has effected is life, I think about him EVERY time I ride.
In the last month I have met 2 men who lost a leg. Both involved a car and an inattentive driver. One of the men quit riding. The other re-named himself Stumpy and opened a bike shop in Oroville. He still rides. I would hope I could be as strong as that man, but cannot fault the other. We love a dangerous sport/hobby. I think it is worth the risk but I still agree with the op. Lets be careful. We are not bulletproof.
15 days ago, inattentive driver took me out from behind-right crossing into my lane... still limping but feel very lucky not to have lost a leg or worse. Will fix my Sportster, and think I'll be up for riding come spring. Tough, though - always looking out for trouble, but it found me from behind.
Almost 28 years old. that's just dam stupid, to me. BTW 189mph is the max limited speed that the MC manufacturers decided to limit with street legal bikes. I'm sure many made today would travel at greater speeds if not limited.
Still that ADULT was just stupid. You may outrun the cop, but you can't outrun the "radio".
beetlejuice, sooo glad you survived. We all come so close each and every time we ride. Sorry, sir, that it got you. I pray that you will heal soon and ride the sporty soon... tomp
