I've been through 6 bikes since my last HD and really thought I wanted apes and the Led Sled look. As it turns out, I live in a small city that's pretty far from other places I like to go. The bobber style bike is doable, but not the most practical for my riding style and daily purpose. As a result, I'm in the process of changing her to a more sporty styled bike.
I'm not looking to argue the practicality of one style over the other; I know that any style Dyna can do a lot of things. However, it doesn't take a lot of forum surfing to realize that Dyna's, more so than most other HD models, are being used for at least three distinct types of use.
So, just out of curiosity, which direction is your bike heading and why is that direction best for you?
Bags, windshields, long-distance comfort?
Sporty, FXDX style/Club style quick and nimble?
Long, low and classic bobber?
Other. Please explain.

One day....one day I will pick up a second bike to do something similar. Probably and old shovel, but a Sporty isn't beyond reason.
This is my first road bike after coming from a lifetime of dirt bikes. I like to think of mine as "purpose built" to be quick and nimble...well as much as an HD can be.
Bobber, because I just don't have time to do the riding I used to do with the road king and fatboy. This is gonna be my little beater, and I'm gonna split my daily commute between the bike and my truck, to save gas money. Also do a little riding around town every once in a while. Dont plan on any road trips, cuz the time just isn't there. Plan on having this one scratch my itch for 3-5 years, and hopefully by then, there will be "time" for more cruising and trips. Then I'll get a touring bike, as a 2nd bike.
Guess I'm going with the low, aped, classic chromed chopper style. Working on getting the last bit of parts for the apes, cables. To be honest, she is becoming more and more comfortable for longer rides. Got the detachable windshield, more comfy seat and soon to be more comfortable handlebar position.
I used the Sportster 72 and pictures of 70's shovelhead Super Glides for inspiration, so whatever direction that is, that's where I'm going. Kinda minimalist classic chopper style, but still comfortable and practical to ride.
I set my bike up so that am not only comfortable on the Hwy, but in the twisties which is my preference. My bike its high for clearance(progressive 412 12.5") and on the rail tight (Ricor Intimator fork dampner) for cornering. The reason I love the WG is because the 36 deg rake gives you comfort when you are stuck on an interstate. I also think the 21" 90/90 front tires make the bike more maneuverable. My pullback drag bars are perfect for comfort and positive cornering. I removed 2" of foam from my stock seat to sit lower with more back support and give me a harder seat for endurance. I recently installed a full size foot brake. The silly stock one was just too small. The Windvest keeps the wind off my chest but still low enough that I dont have to look through it It is not unusual for me to ride 500 miles a day. The rest is just bling, LOL.

Kudos on the quick detached items. I have the sissy bar, luggage rack and qd windshield. All of this is currently off my '09 fxdc. I now have the Mustang solo touring seat with back rest and fender bib. I am removing my engine guard and auxiliary lights this week. I like chrome and have a lot of it and going for the slender, more sleek look. I am keeping all of these quick release items in case I want to change the look or take a longer trip.I have ordered a lot of extra chrome pieces and reaper wheels and should have it all installed in a week or so. After spending more than I should, still not where I want it to be. Next is shocks and front end.
