FINALLY Black fork lowers installed
The first issue I had was a pretty lame one actually. The freaking dust seal!!! I was using a new screw driver to try to gently pry the first one loose when it slipped and scratched the **** out of my fork tube!! Lucky for me the suspension was full compressed placing the scratch above the seal line so it wont leak. My first tip would be to us a thinner standard screwdriver. The one I used was blunt. I sharpened it on the concrete making it thin enough to get between the seal and fork lower and gently pried it off. It's a stupid rookie mistake that very few would make but I made it.
The next rookie mistake I made was forgetting to remove that 12mm seat pipe bolt after I drained the oil. I was using the side hammer technic to remove the fork seal and it wasn't coming apart. The 12mm bolt was still holding everything together!!
The next thing was the seal driver. I bought a universal seal driver that was supposed to be good up to 50mm forks. The slide didn't fit the 49mm forks. I had to use the driver from the kit, a piece of PVC pipe & a mallet I had to drive the seal down. It worked but was a waste of money considering I could've made a seal driver out of PVC for way way less.
Other than that its really an easy task to do. I bought the syringe tool for the fork oil level which made it a piece of cake to get the oil level right. Having an extra set of hands helps when trying to thread the cap back on when you are ready to reassemble. Take your time and you'll be golden. I made it way harder than it needed to be because I had never worked on suspension before. I could do it in my sleep now. If you run into any issues or have any questions shoot me a PM.
Here is mine, 2012 wide glide.
