Hey guys its been awhile. I finally got my bike back together after installing my black fork lowers. I ended up ordering the HD black out kit. I learned a lot doing this project. This was my first time messing with suspension and it was not a great experience. If I had to do it again it would be a piece of cake though so I did learn something. My wife says I need to get the trees done. I agree but I wont be doing that for a while. I just want to ride the dang thing. It was down way longer than it should've been.
Looking good! The black lowers are subtle, but striking at the same time.
Live and learn. You may have lost some ride time, but now, every time you look down at your forks, you can smile and think about your learning experience.
I just went through something similar with my bar change. I haven't done a bar change on a modern bike until now. I was a mad **** about 67 times during the process, but it felt good accomplishing the task. I can tear up some motor work, but that wire stuffing BS was a hell of a learning experiment.
That looks awesome And I would agree with your wife about getting the trees done.
I'm not too sure if I want to get into Taking the forks apart to have them sent out to be powder coated so I sprayed them all wrinkle black finish That came out pretty good but I don't know how long it's going to last.

I know that all too well, haha. I actually walked away for a few weeks. I was doing more harm than good trying to finish this project with the amount of stress I was under at work. I made a lot of stupid mistakes that could've been avoided had I been thinking more clear.

Thanks. I agree about the trees. I think the trees would just complete the look. I don't think it looks bad now but it looks like its missing something and that something is black trees.
As far as taking the suspension apart. Its really easy once you figure it out. After the disaster that was my left fork the right fork took me about 15mins taking my time.
As soon as this deployment is over, I am pulling my forks and trees and sending them to powdercoat. I have never messed with the front end so I have to find some youtube videos on it so I know what I am doing.

If you are coming back to AZ after deployment and want some insight let me know. Its really easy as long as you have the tools. That was part of my problem. I'd be glad to help. Would make my steep learning curve worth it to help someone else out. Let me know.
I am thinking of doing the same to my 2013 WG, can you give any details of lessons learned - tools, tips, and techniques you would be willing to share? Thanks,
ec
Looks nice, good job, I ended up taking the whole front end apart and powder coating eveything, plus a lot of other parts, those 12mm seat pipe bolts can be tricky but a good impact gun will take care of that.
