Default Heritage softail classic , Upgrade?

Have an 06 Bob and was thinking about moving to a heritage. I'm 6-3 and thought it would be a good fit . Also maybe better for longer trips? I don't want to move to a full touring bike yet , not enough riding time to warrent that. Do i stick with the smaller? Bob or move to heritage. Have a buyer for the bob if i wanted.

What about a Fatboy instead. A friend has one, an '05 and bought another('07), so his wife can ride his '05.

iam 6 ft 6 and my bob fits me great. why dont you turn your bob into a tourbob for the traveling part, then when your done strip it down to your street rod. look at my sig and you will see what iam talking about. just a suggestion and the mod cost only $150.00 total for mount and tourpak. just a suggestion before you switch or spends lots of money. if you like just click the link under my sig for more information. jackyl

I did put the removable sissy bar and luggage on mine plus a detach shield. I guess i get tired of my biker friends telling me to get a full size bike . But then when we go to bike nites i'm laugh'in it up .

Ride one first! The Heritage is one of the Softails that has a derated engine. My Night train has 1 ft/lb less torque than a Dyna because that's what it takes to drive the balance shafts on the B engine, but all but 2 other ST's are rated at maybe 4 ft/lb less and at a lower speed, suggesting that they have milder cams.
Also that big triangular swingarm adds to the unsprung weight, giving the ST s bit rougher ride than a Dyna.
Now, depending on your riding style you may never notice any of this, but it's best to get in some seat time before you decide.

I wouldn't thinkthere would be enough of an improvement to warrant the cost. I'd spend about the same - maybe less - and go with a RdKing. But riding them is an excellent suggestion. Perhaps the dealer has a used 1 he might let you take around the block.

I'm probably gonna be in the minority here...but I say go for it. The way I see it, if I was in your position, and I was even questioning getting a replacement ride, I'd have to ask myself, do I really like what I have now. In my case, I love my bike....more than any other...so I wouldn't get rid of it.
Personally, I love the heritage...and if I could get any other bike, that would probably be it.
Do what you feel is right man..and don't worry about what anyone else says about it. Of course...best case scenario...get a heritage, and keep the dyna.

personally...i dont think it would be an "upgrade" at all....i think after riding the bob, you'll be disappointed w/ the handling of a softail...dynas were built to handle....softails were built to look like a rigid while having a suspension...period!
i think if you want a touring bike...get a bagger...that's what theyre "made" for...same theory applies here as well...thats not to say softails or dynas cant be fitted to tour...i just dont understand the idea of buying one thing when you want something else
of course ultimately it's YOUR decision..YOUR **** in the seat..and YOUR wallet that takes the hit...
if you "feel" the heritage...go for it!
if not... get some fwd. controls..and give jackyl a shout about his "tour-bob" kit

sorry if this offends any softail owners...it was not my intent

I agree. softial is not a upgrade. it is just a different bike. to each their own i reckon. [sm=sleeping.gif]

It bothers me (as I'm sure it does other dyna owners) that folks that really aren't knowledgeable consider a softail an "upgrade" over a dyna...and I suppose those same people consider a touring model an upgrade over a softail. That's all nonsense...these are all big twins, and all have models that are pricier than other models in the same family, and in other families. I own a wide glide...there are a number of softails (and one or two tourers as well) that do not cost (MSRP) as much as what I paid for my DWG.
I tend to look at the word "upgrade" as a per price term. Nothing to do with equipment, technology, etc....but the fact remains, an 18K bike is an upgrade over a 13K bike...period....even if it does nothing more than the later. If you pay more money, it's an upgrade...and in this case, hobbes is saying he wants to move to a heritage. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a heritage softail, off the floor, will cost at least a couple grand more than a st bob. So, with that said, in this case, it most certainly is an upgrade...but once again, I don't think it's an upgrade because of what it is...but because of how much it will cost. Same thing if he wanted to move to a DWG...or a Fatboy....or a Road King...all of which are considerably pricier motorcycles. At the same time, if he wanted to move to a softail standard...not really an upgrade...considering both are similarly priced.
This is just my take on what Hobbes is asking...I don't think anyone who owns a dyna glide really looks at softails or tourers as upgrades simply because they are softails or tourers...that idea usually comes from the uninformed.
Just my .02
