I have a 2013 HD Street Bob 103. I'm looking at upgrading the exhaust and adding the tuner kit. I really don't know which one I should get. For the exhaust I'm torn between the Bassani Road Rage II and the V&H short shots. I thought I was sure I was going to get the HD Screaming Eagle Street Performance kit. Any suggestions for my first bike?
Those are two very different exhausts. I don't like the short shots so would go with the bassani. I'm running the road rage pipe. I also like Bub pipes, so check out some of theirs 2 into 2 pipes if you like the short shots.
As for getting a tuner, I would go with either a power commander or a power vision. If the money is there, even a wideband auto-tune kit to go with it.
These will have more flexibility in the future than the harley kits.
I went with Fuel Moto's micro tuner on my '13 Bob and haven't had any issues. It isn't as feature heavy as a Power Commander V, or some others, but it didn't cost me $500+ either.
Regarding pipes, I am an active member of the "no short shots" club. They are obnoxious sounding on almost all bikes and they do nothing but rob you of power. Not to mention you see them on almost every freaking Dyna and Sporster on the road. I have the same Bassani pipe as izzyrider and so far I have been pretty happy with it - good sound and good power.
Please take my short shots comment with a grain of salt... I personally hate them, but if that is what you, or anyone else, digs, then more power to you.
I ended up getting a power vision from fuel moto for my Fat BOB set up for my rinehart crossbacks and forcewinder intake. I told jamie what I had and its dialed in perfect!
If all you plan is exhaust, air cleaner, go with a micro tuner from FM. If you MIGHT do more later the PowerCommander V, is good, and flexible. If you're going to BUILD your engine, get a master tune, etc.
If you want short shorts, fine, they are obnoxious. I ran a set on a bobber. Killed the feel of the bike, but looked right. I hated them.
The Bassani, I have no experience. Running a V&HN ProPipe, on the Dyna, and D&D on the FXR. Haven't heard any complaints regarding the Bassani.
If you like the look of 2n2 pipes and want Vance and hines, look into big shots. The pipes have a collector to equalize pressure and I love mine. I also have the micro tuner from fuel moto and have had really goodresults . And if you buy it direct from fuel moto, they will refine your map for free.
depends on how far you plan on going with mods. if all your doing is exhaust there really isnt a need for a tuner. with an AC upgrade you'll want a tuner. the microtuner works or a pc5, or fuelpack. or just some xieds to richen the bike a little.
if you plan on going farther past that then get the best tuner you can afford. i'd recommend the powervision.
