Default Front end set up giving me a headache

What's up fellas I'm tired of the sloppy performance of my stock fxd suspension so it's time for some major upgrades. I've been doing quite a bit of reading on this forum and have been debating between many different products, but I think I've pretty much made up my mind on what I'll be using, I just have a few questions before I start making phone calls and spending a bunch of $$$$$. I'm going to use the ricor 13" sport tune shocks out back but the front is where I have questions. I'm thinking of using the intiminators with the traxxion springs and amsoil #10 shock therapy and rsd pre load adjusters.

I'm assuming when I call traxxion dynamics that they will help me with what spring is right for me but is the spacer that comes with the spring a universal size that needs to be cut down for my specific application? I know squidhead on here was going through this same process and was saying that setting the sag can be a pain, but like he, I was aiming to set the sag right without the pre load adjusters so they could be used to dial in the bike for different scenarios.

Also I consider myself pretty mechanically incline and have a good selection of tools to work with, is this something that "joe the weekend mechanic" can pull off in the garage? Any special tools I need to purchase?

Any input is greatly appreciated I know this topic has been covered a lot on here I just want to make sure I'm spending money on the right products

I already order my a Traxxion springs online. You have to provide your details (bike, weight, riding style, etc.)

They haven't shipped yet. They told me they are on back order and would ship after the holidays. I'm not sure how they plan to provide spacers.

Are you using the intiminators with those springs? What are you running in the rear?

You can just use 1 and 1/4 schedule 40 PVC for spacers. You could also just cut down the metal one already in the forks, but the PVC is easier to work with. It took about three cuts and installs to get my sag right. I'm using the stock springs, ricor Intiminators, and preload adjusters.

There is a really good 'how-to' write up on removing and reinstalling forks and internal components without using special tools here ... https://www.hdforums.com/forum/4679412-post1167.html ... continued here ... https://www.hdforums.com/forum/4679414-post1168.html ...

The writer, Mud, installs a set or Ricor Intiminators which are valves designed to modulate the fork oil in the stock "open bath" type hydraulic front end suspension that comes stock on most Harleys ...

An alternative to the Intiminators are the Race Tech Gold Valve cartridge emulators ...

As I understand the difference between these two systems are that the Intiminators have a proprietary oil modulating valve system that uses inertia to smooth the flow ... vice a strictly spring operated system for the Gold Valves ...

There is some discussion of the Intiminators on this thread ... https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...n-upgrade.html

There are several vendors for replacement springs as an alternative to reusing the stock springs ... Race Tech, Works, Progressive to name a few ...

Another option for some of the other model bikes are Progressive monotube cartridge type suspension ... unfortunately not an option for the Dynas ... don't know if it is in development or not ...

Good luck sorting it out ... there are a lot of good resources for the DIY-er on here if you know where to look ... and a lot of helpful folks who can point you in the right direction ...

Right on chop I appreciate the links. Sounds like it's not too scary to install. Did you get your Ohlins directly from their site or another dealer?

Adding my 2 cents here. I got my Ohlins from Motorcyclemetal. A sponsor here, Howard can give you all you need to know about your suspension. Give him a call. The advantage of getting the Ohlins from him is that they will come to you dialed in for your needs.

I'm not sporting Ohlins ... sorry, can't add much to that discussion ...

I've got Progressives on the rear and Race Tech springs with Gold Valve cartridge emulators in my front forks ... (by the by, my front forks are 41mm tubes and triple clamps off a FLST Softail) ...

Yes, I'm going to run Intiminators. I have them in the garage and will install them at the same time as the springs.

I'll be running Ohlins in the back but haven't bought them yet.
