I tried many different spacer lengths along with stock and HD heavy fork oil ,amsoil 5wt and 10 wt. For me amsoil 5 wt and 1 inch spacer worked the best. I'm 195lbs and most riding is done solo.

I spoke to Kyle at Progressive yesterday. He suggested 10W oil and 1/2" of spacer extending over the top edge of the fork tubes. This was based on my weight of 190lbs and that I 2 up ride often which brings the rider/passenger weight up to 330lbs. For the record.. I had no problem with my stock Harley springs other than a little too much dive on heavy breaking. It wasn't anything that bothered me. The Progressive 11-1525 springs are MUCH more heavy duty as compared to the stock Harley springs.

Jumpstarts this old thread up instead of starting new one..

I just bought a set of Ps 430(12,5”) and 11-1525 front springs along with an adjustable fork cap from PS to my Wideglide 2011.
Before installing everything I’m trying to figure out how I should set my preload spacers.

Been reading the 2 last comments on this thread since they match me pretty good, but just wanted some confirmation I’m thinking correct.. 🙄

So I’m thinking of going with 1/2” over the top and also considering going with 5wt oil.
I’m 200 lbs with gear and mostly ride solo, mostly cruising but sometimes a bit twisty roads.

And the few times I ride 2up I could just tighten my adjustable fork caps(fully tightened = 0.76” more preload) which should make the springs stiffer and a bit better for 2up riding?

Anyone with similar setup that could confirm my idea before I start pulling things apart? 🙄

It's all really trial and error. There is no one magic formula. You have to set it up for the way you ride, the way you want it to handle and your weight. You should start at the stock position that Progressive recommends.. Then if that does not meet your handling expectations and ride comfort And you need to decide whether you want it stiffer or softer and more or less dive. It's all a preference and everybody rides differently..

Extending the spacer will firm up the front end, create less dive but you'll also feel more nooks and crannies in the road. Same goes for going with lighter to heavier oil.

I like a firmer feel so I always went with a 1/2-in over on the spacer and 20 weight oil sometimes 15. That's because I wanted the handling at very high speeds. It helps to keep the front end on the ground..
