I keep reading conflicting things on this subject. I want to put a 18x5.5 rim on the rear of my 2010 wide glide with a 200 tire. this compatibility chart say i can only use a 180 tire, but I've seen people post that they use 200 tires with this setup. What's the real scoop on this? Would I be better off sticking with a 180?
I was wondering about putting a 200 on the rear of my 07 wideglide. The 200 goes on a 6.00 wheel. I don't know how close the 200 would be to the swing arm. I do ride 2 up often and am concerned with the clearance. I don't like the composition of the 180 tire and what I hear about tire wear. I will be going to a 160/70- Michelin Commander 2. May be someone will give us some feed back.
Im running a 200 Avon Cobra on 18X5.5 rim on my Fat Bob with a WG fender. No issues whatsoever. I personally chose the Avon because it had great reviews and it also runs a little smaller than other brands such as Metz. If you read the actual specs you will find out that no tire size markings are exact. with a 200mm tire you will get some brands that spec out at 195, 197, 196, etc. When I bought my wheels I asked the builder about running a 200 on a 5.5 wide wheel and he said it was one of the most common set ups and he's never heard of anyone having problems. Theres even a member on here running a 200 on a 5" rim and he hasn't had any issues.

The VTX has a 5.5 inch rear wheel and many many use the 200 without any problems.
The only real problem that many has found out with the 5.5 inch rim thread life may be short lived compared tot he 180 tires.
personally I like the 180 tires myself. Good selection of tires
