Default DK Custom Heel Rests

So I went looking for a set of heel rests. Had some Kuriyakin (sp?) on a previous Springer and liked them. Problem, I have Black Diamond footpegs on my Low Rider and they were not compatible. Did not want to change my pegs so the search started.

Went to the local dealership and found a set of billet heel rests that use a shifter peg for your heel (they were in an older catalogue). Price = 119 (plus another $60 for 2 shifter pegs). On top of that, they were chrome and I would still have to get them powder coated to match everything else.

Found a set of powder coated heel rests on DK Customs (www.dkcustomproducts.com). They were pretty much identical to the Harley ones, priced at $84, and already black. Score. Ordered them, bought some Black Diamond shifter pegs, and did the quick install. Very happy with the outcome, and added comfort for the ride.

Always like to pass along "the gouge" and cost savings.

How do heel rests affect lean angle? Do they "give" when they scrape?

You do need to watch your lean angle (and the DK instructions note that as well) since there is no give on the bracket. One of the things I like about these is they are adjustable (i.e. you can swivel the bracket 360 degrees). So you can bring the heel rest up, or even move it to the front and use as a toe rest.

I didn't notice much of a change to my lean angle because I had already added the engine guard so I am already cognizant when entering turns.

Nice! Those look awesome. I bought the Kurakyn pegs with sitirrups but had I known about these, I would have definitely gone with the DK instead. They look way better. Very nice!

Nice looking, but they look like they make shifting (and probably braking) awkward.

Looking Good Chis. Adds so many different positions for the feet.

They fold up the same as the pegs do. Depending on how you have them adjusted, the footpeg or the heel peg will touch down first. But just like your footpeg will fold up, so will the heel rest.

On mine, pictured below, I have them adjusted so that the heel rest touches down before the footpeg. When I'm aggressive in the corner, pushing the lean, I can feel it swiveling on the clevis "hinge".

On just a stock footpeg mount you have one clevis that allows the peg to "fold-up", when using the heel rest you have two clevis', so even more ability to fold-up in the twisties.

I can't think of how they could make it more awkward to shift or brake. For me it actually makes it more versatile in foot positions for shifting or braking. I can move my foot around a lot more, and sometimes I find my foot resting on the heel rest arm more than the heel rest peg.

I have a set of Kuryayns on mine. Been looking to change but not willing to give up the heel rests. Now I have options! Awesome.
and i agree that the shifter or brake pedal access isn't an issue.

Just looking, the foot not being in alignment with the brake/shift pedal looks like (until you get use to it) you'l have to feel for them.

I see what you mean.

What happens is that your foot automatically treats everything from the inward clevis in as part of the foot platform. This is one of the things that make this set-up so comfortable.

Just like on a touring bike where you can move your foot around on the floorboards, with this set-up sometimes my feet will be centered on the heel rest arm, with just the outside part of my foot being on the inside part heel rest peg and footpeg.

Then for a change in position, I still have plenty of room to move my feet a couple of inches outward.
