I have been a big fan of the S&S exhaust set up for years. On my ‘ 12 I ran their tuned header. On my ‘17 and ‘18 their El Dorado system and on another bike their compliant 2/1 Sidewinder. On two other bikes their Grand National slip-ons and MK-45s. They all have had great fit and finish and a good sound.
I am no expert and do not have a legal background this is only my opinion based on owning 5 M8 bikes (don’t ask..
First thing if you use a tuner that is not HD your warranty will most likely be void. If you run a CARB/EPA compliant exhaust with an HD tuner you are not tuning the bike out of compliance so I feel that you put yourself in a better place with keeping the warranty. I had a dealer call HD back in 2018 about the HD stage 2 cam, HD tuner and auto tuner with the S&S exhaust. At that time they said it would not be an issue. Fortunately for me I haven’t had any issues with the running gear and didn’t need to use the factory warranty, but I do know the VIN was never flagged. I have had a few other warranty issues and they were all covered with no questions ask. The only warranty claim that was close to the motor was they had the rocker box covers replaced on my ‘18 RGS because the black turned gray. Had the S&S exhaust on it and had no issues.
