yah maybe the seat material is the difference.

Well I think I'm going to go ahead and order a custom in fire red tomorrow. Anybody else have any further input?

Sounds like you made up your mind but I'll toss in my .02 cents.

I bought a FXD based on a few factors, the chief ones being the good price I got mine for and the "blank canvas" I was looking for to make her my own. As a few folks have stated, the only problem I have is the speedo locale being such a hassle when it come to bar changes. Other than that I am totally satisfied with my "plain jane" and have spent the past two months slowly customizing her the way I see fit, not what some engineer at HD thought would make her look "custom".
It seems to me that the look your going for is all right in that FDC so I say go for that model so you don't end up looking back with a "maybe I should have......." doubt lingering in your mind.

Oh and one more thing, I hate the stock mags on the FXD. I lucked out when I found mine as the dealer had swapped the laced wheels off an 07 Bob at stuck them on my bike before she hit the showroom floor. Turns out the guy buying the Bob didn't want the laced wheels on his bike so they took the mags off mine. Not a bad upgrade that I didn't end up paying extra for later......

Wow, that's pretty cool that you got the wheels you wanted, man.

I think the custom does have pretty much the look I want and I won't want to swap a lot of parts out. At least that's what I'm telling myself right now.

Get the '07 Custom. You will find it's upgrades are things you will want in the end anyway ... and take into account the sage advice from those that have mentioned bar changes. Your life will be easier in that regard with the Custom.

Sounds like the custom is a perfect choice for you. I just wanted to put in a word in favor of the speedo mount on the Super Glide Ordinary -- I had a few chances to ride Harleys with the tank-mount speedo and really like the bar-mount better from a riding perspective. I always found that I had to dip my head down to read the speed on a tank-mount and I only have to swivel my eyes to read the bar-mount. Not a huge thing, but a small win many times per day.

I don't like the way the speedometer looks up on the bars. I prefer it down on the tank. Then fuel tanks between the bikes are completely different it looks like.
Yes, the tank's are different. The Custom gets the bigger 5 gal tank, the same as the Wide Glide. In fact the whole tank/speedo set up is the same as the Wide Glide.

I didn't have the choice as you as the basic FXD isn't sold here in the UK, so only had the choice of the Bob, Custom, Low Rider and Wide Glide over here.

I'm well chuffed with my 07 Custom.

I have got a Sundowner solo seat on order, but not found the OEM seat that uncomfortable so far. I've spent 3 hours 'in the saddle' in one go and not got a numb rear so far, but it probably wasn't far off....

Have you seen one in the red yet..??

Doesn't look too bad, my dealer has one in stock at the moment.
I went for the Black Cherry, but I've seen one in the blue and that looked really nice as well.

I was going to metion that I like this fact about the speedo as well Splatter, but saw the jokes about "who's looking at the speedo" coming from a mile away.

Another vote for superglide.
I got an 07' in september and added a sundowner seat, passenger pegs, detachable windsheild, Python 2 into 1, techlusion TFI, driving lights, heated grips.

and I am STILL under the cost of the custom. If the custom was like $800 -$900 more then the superglide I can see making that choice. But $2500 for the little extra you get is rediculous.

I bought my Super Glide because I knew I'd be changing it anyway.

Think of it as a blank canvas...

I'm also one of those who prefers the bar-mounted speedo. I don't like it on the tank, and besides... I think the SG's aircraft-style fuel filler cap is gorgeous...

Thats true I guess I never considered the fact that the speedo is a lot easier to view on the super glide.
