I went with the Custom and would do it again. I personally am not a fan of polished parts as they get really cloudy and start looking horrible as time goes on. Chrome is pretty much indestructalbe as long as you take care of it. To me, the Custom was well worth the extra money.
I think you will get what you are looking for on the FXDIC.
I bought the FXDI for all the reasons you don't like (I think) the FXDI.
I am one of those that likes the speedo on the handlebars, and mine now stands straight up, where I can see it.
The main reason I didn't go for the custom was too much chrome.
The main reason I didn't buy a Street Bob was the location of the speedo.
The other reason I didn't buy a Street Bob is, I don't like bikes named Bob (LOL).
Dealers will generally swap wheels around for you, or sell you nicer ones at purchase.
Some days I do wish I had bought the other SG (Street Glide).
Maybe when I get old, and want to listen to music when I ride.
Get what you want the first time.
Only warning I will give is............ You are going to buy more chrome/other parts anyway, until the bike is "you".
Evenus poor guys end up spending an extra $2000 in the first year (my experience).
