Default From Sportster to Dyna

Hi everyone... well, I am going to switch forums as I am taking the leap from my Sportster 883 to a larger bike. I haven't bought one yet, but looking at 2007-2009 Dyna Low Riders. For essentially the price of a "newer" 1200c I can get a loaded, larger bike that is only a year or two older.

It all started with the seat... I was thinking of going with a Sundowner seat on my 883 to make it more comfortable and remove the feeling that I'm getting blown off the bike at 45+ mph... So, roughly $300... And then it went to sissy bar and passenger pegs... another $300... Well, then I figured I'd look at 883's and 1200's that already had upgrades for only a few hundred more...

Eventually I went to a dealer and sat on a Low Rider that was only $1000 more than the loaded 883... it was SOOOO comfortable. The change in riding position and the size of the frame and tank just gave the bike a different feel that was so much nicer than the upright feel on the Sportster.

I didn't think I'd want to change from the Sportster line... I like my bike and there is no SUPER compelling reason to go much larger. I figured I'd just go with a 1200 custom but sitting on the Dyna changed my mind. So I guess I'm now one of "those" guys who started on a 883 and then went to a "real man's" bike

LOL.

I'm in the market and hope to have something in the next few months. Wish me luck!

Anyone else out there have a similar story?

2009 883 iron. Now 2013 Dyna Switchback. Love it. No compariso. I am vertically Challenged (short) and the sportswear always felt cramped and toying. Dyna has way better ergonomics.

I've gone from a sportster to dyna and back to sportster twice now. Each has its benefits. For me I like the "flickability" if that's a word of Tue sportster. The dyna did everything right and I had no big complaints. It was just not as nimble as my sportsters. I'll have both again one day and won't have to choose. But for me at least the sporty is my daily choice.

If you are going to ride over 100 miles at a pop, no comparison. Get the Dyna. Much more comfortable.

we have both a sporty and a dyna fxdc, the dyna is a lot more stable and for me i like how much safer i feel on it... the sporty is a bike that is good for around town, but not for the longer trips... i wouldnt get another sporty for the type of riding i do

Yes, looking forward to the switch. Plus, some of the additional features like the bags. I just need the snow to melt!!

That's what happened to me. Was looking for a Sporty, found my Dyna and that was that.
