I can get the new metzlers for $250 shipped from Dennis Kirk-100/90/19 & 130/90/16. I can pick up a used craftsman jack for $50. One price I saw for mounting is $75/tire. So right there I am looking at $450...
I don't do burn outs, I ride hard, but do not trust a tire that almost took me down twice. I went to the Pirelli Night Dragons. I have more miles on the ND's now than I did when I wore out the Dunflops. I will be able to ride this season on them yet.
One thing to keep in mind for tire wear is the environment you ride in. Extreme heat, crappy pavement, straight roads vs twisties, etc. They all change how your tire wears.

perhaps it was rider error that almost took you down 2X...JMO

I have run Metzlers, Dunlops and Commander II. The best I ever got out of the Metzler or Dunlop was 6500 miles. I ride very conservatively. My 3rd set of C II is at 6k and looks new. I average 12k with them. Harbor freight has jacks for 50 bucks and Torque wrenches for 10 if you use the coupon in Thunder Press. If I take my tire in I am charged 20 bucks for mounting. The C IIs run me 115 for my 21 90/90 and 170 for my 16 140. "DO NOT" forget to use a quality axel grease.

$75 a tire is too much money if the wheel is already off the bike. Check somewhere else. Cycle gear charges me $30 a tire. $20 a tire if you buy it from them
