I know the manual says to change engine oil at 1000 and 5000. My bike had 1100 miles on it when I bought it and the dealer said they did the 1000 mile service but they didnt use synthetic oil when they serviced it,Cheap bastards.
Do you wait the 4000 miles between oil changes or do you change at the beginning of the riding season? Also when I change the oil im going to use a synthetic oil but there is about a 1/2 qt left in the motor. Is it ok to leave the non synthetic oil in the motor and fill with synthetic or buy the scavenger system to get all the old oil out.
Thanks fellas

before storage "suppose" to change oil then new stuff in for storage..so its fresh in the cases..dirty oil is acidic and attacks internals..if you dont wanna spend cashola on scavenger i run my engine for heat cycle then drain until its hardly dripping then put plug in pour in abit of fresh then pull plug to let the most of the contaminated out..then plug back then filler up hope i helped just a little bit
Amsoil has a higher detergent level, it will clean more "crud" off of internal components. If you used it for a few changes it would probably come out cleaner after a change or two
Yep...... and I never run my engine oil for 5k miles. I do 3k mile oil changes on my bikes.

Don't over think it, you'll drive yourself nuts.
Just buy the oil and change it. Every bike/car I've owned in the last 10 years has made this same transition and I never did anything special to get the last of the dino oil out.
I too tried Scamsoil and wasn't impressed at all. Had excessive engine noise with it and so did my dad in his 09 ultra. I think scamsoil is overpriced and over-rated. I currently have Syn3 in the engine now and experience light engine noise sometimes but nothing like with scamsoil. Probably going with mobil 1 next time in all 3 holes.
