Superglides rule!
Superglides is what you get when you can't afford a wide glide...I know this is going to spark up an argument...bring it on! Let me explain, back in 2000 when I bought my 00 Super Glide...I really wanted the Wide Glide, but couldn't afford the extra 5k. So I bought the Super Glide and added this and added that and at the end I ended up spending more that the price of the Wide Glide and my goal was always to make it look like the Wide Glide. Ilove the rake of the Wide glide and the freedom look it has. Don't get me wrong, I loved how the Super Glide handled and it was easier to ride than my Wide Glide...but then again a Harley is not about easy...if I was looking for easy I would have bought a Honda. IMO, the looks of a Wide Glide cannot be matched by any other bike....again, it is my opinion.
("Freedom look of the rake?"OK, whatever... To my eyes, that rake looks like it wouldn't handle right. The Wide Glide looks like a laid-backcruiser, and the SG looks more like a performance Harley... which is what I like.)
Here's my story: I walked in the local H-D dealer one Saturday morning, looking like a scraggly-assbum. Neither the salesman nor the finance guy was too sure about me; I think they thought I was wasting their time...

So, I pick out my beautiful black SG, and I'm sitting in the finance guy's office... while he's checking my credithe asks me how much I'm putting down; I say casually, "oh, $6,000 or so... He looks at me, looks at his computer, and looks back at me with a puzzled look. He says, "man, not to insult you, but you've got a bang-up triple-Acredit rating. You can afford any bike in this place. Why just a Super Glide?"
"'Cause it's my favorite, man. Whaddya think?"
I should add, that Sportsters are actually my favorite Harleys, but at 6' 4", I'm just too big for one. So, the SG is as close as I can get.
So, there's your answer, 2000fxdwg. You are right, it's all about personal opinion. We're all different, eh?
^^2000, I think you might be surprised how many of us bought our Super Glides because we liked them, not because of the price. Besides... if you're spending $13,000 and up for a bike, there's really not a wholelot of difference between $13k and $15k...
Personally, I like the simple honesty of the SG. It's simple and unpretentious; it's not overdone...
Or, in the words of my buddy Dick Luffman, another SG man, "it's just a motorcycle". It ain't tryin' to be aCaptain America chopper...

^ Agreed.

If you jump in throwin' zingers, you're gonna get a few back. All in good fun, man.
I think I made my point, which is: for most of us SG riders, it ain't about the money... We bought what we liked best. Period. So did you. It's all good!
