Default New Top End

I made the appointment today. I am going to have Fresno Harley tear into my motor and see why it's burning oil. They are going to run compression tests and check something with the breather, but I am guessing I am going to end up with a new top end. A Harley 95" kit runs the same as a stock 88 so that's what I am going to do if it is ready. With 75K on the odometer my only worry is that it's going to put too much stress on the old bottom. Its an 01 A motor with the Timkin Bearings so I am thinking it will be ok, but if it's weak I will go for splitting the cases. I know some of you are going to tell me to use the S&S kit, but I am going to stick with my dealer, and he uses Harley only. I would love to hear other opinions.

I think your solid crank and high quality bearing will do just fine.

Good luck.

Yeah, I agree, the 01s have the Timken and the better crank IIRC. So a Big Bore Kit and how about cams - what ya thinking?

I already did the cams at 50K. S&S 510s with the S.E. tensioner kit so it has the larger oil pump. I replaced the lifters then also. I considered going with the roller rockers until I talked to the guys at Branch Heads. They said noisy and can fail.

Definitely no need for rockers with .510" cams, I am putting in .590" cams and still not using rockers - but I do believe the latter model TCs have better valve springs for handling bigger cams.

In most cases roller rockers are not needed. Just the right person to set it up right.
