Teflon tape is a thread lubricant....not a sealant.
Loctite does make a product that sets in oily conditions believe its Loctite 243.
Clean and dry everything then use an old hot rodders trick.....spray the entire area where you suspect leak with ladies deodorant (think soft and dry). It will dry and leave a powder residue. Ride it or let it sit.....the powder residue will clearly show you the path the oil is taking.
The best part is, the powder washes off with water.
I hear they make this stuff for men these days to!
As noted above, cleaning thoroughly is necessary, but you can also get some oil dye and put it in your engine so you can determine if it's engine oil, primary oil, or tranny oil. Different colored dye for each reservoir will dial in where the drip is coming from. Clean and look often til you find the leak.
just had same issue on the fatboy we are re working
thought it was the outter primary as it was ground down at the drain plug area
oil would drip onto the plug and bolt next to it making it look like it was from there
cleaned it up like every1 is telling you and noticed it was from behind with it on a jack and used mirror
pulled the primary apart and found it to be the main shaft seal ,
changed every seal while we were in there - its cheap enough
no leak since!
