Default dyna question

Hi i am somewhat mechanically challeneged and have a few questions. First i want to remove the rear fender from my 2009 fat bob to do some mods. do i need to remove the strut covers in order to do this? the turn signals look to run through them? and to remove the strut covers it looks as if i need to remove the shocks? witch leads me to my next question. can i remove one at a time with the bike on its kick stand? or do i need some sort of jack?

thanks for the help.

you do need to remove the covers as well as the shocks (top mount) and the turn signals. you can unplug all of them and you will need to lift the bike up so yes sir you will need a jack of some kind to put this guy in the air

It would be a heck a lot easier to use a jack/stand.
When you remove the shock, remove the fastener's, and disconnect the turn signals the cover will come off any way. Nothing else to keep it in place.
Either the tire needs to come off or remove the shocks to have enough room for the fender to come off easy.
I am sure you can do it on the jiffy stand but it won't be easy.
perhaps others will chime in with better help.

If you're removing the fender in order to put a wide glide fender on you'll definitely need to remove the strut covers. Because the wide glide fender is shorter than the fat bob strut covers. If you're removing the fender for some other type of mod and putting the original fender back on you don't need to remove the covers. The rear blinkers are held on by a nut on the inside of the fender. I think that same nut also holds the tail light section but it's been a while.

A motorcycle lift would be the thing to get, it will make life a lot easier on you and you will use it numerous times in the future. I got mine on line for about eighty five bucks.
