Hey fellas, finally got back around to doing some work on the scoot. Got my forks all put back together and threw them on the bike last night. Problem is, they don't appear to be fitting properly inside the triple trees. The front of the fork tube is protruding out about 1/4" and the back is maybe 1/16" or so. Both sides seem to be like that. Looks like I may have to apply downward (towards the bike) force on them as I tighten the pinch bolts. Take a look and let me know what you think.
Yeah, I saw the part where it says, "Install fork tubes above upper fork clamp 0.575-0.675in (14.6-17.1mm)." That includes the stock fork tube caps which I no longer have on there.
I just wanted to make sure that it was normal for the fork tubes to "appear" to be slightly crooked....
I thought the rake would come from the difference from the back of the trees to the neck to change the angle for longer tubes or the neck?? I would imagine they would still be even around the top to evenly pinch the fork tubes. If not that seems like a cheap and a weak point to say hey lets shave the sleeves at an angle for a WG fork tubes. Are you sure the trees are torqued straight/flat to the neck?? But i guess the tolerance is small so if they were crooked they probably wouldn't be easy to slide up.
I thought the rake would come from the difference from the back of the trees to the neck to change the angle for longer tubes?? I would imagine they would still be even around the top since that's where the manual tells you to measure it around. That seem cheap and a weak point to say hey lets shave the sleeves for WG down tubes. Are you sure the trees are torqued straight to the neck?? I see what's in my manual real quick!!
I completely agree. The rake should be from the angle at which the trees are mounted. I think if I were to torque the pinch bolts down the way I have it, then the fork tubes would be bending ever so slightly right?
When reinstalling the whole steering head assembly there wasn't any play front to back. It all fits tightly. The fork stem nut is torqued down to the manual specs and the whole steering assembly functions properly and smoothly.
