I completely understand your situation. I had a Shadow that was set up for 2up riding when needed. I bought my wife a 1200 sportster, and a year later I was looking for a new ride for myself. I settled on a basically solo setup on my Low Rider. She even told me when I was looking at bikes not to buy one with a backrest and second seat because she was not riding on the back EVER. I can count the number of times I have had a passenger on with me on one hand. On my Low Rider the only person to ride on the little cushion I call a back seat is my sister in law, who complains that I should invest in a rear seat, with my wife right beside me on her bike. I simply point out I don't have a rear seat bcuz I don't want anyone to want to ride with me.

Long story short - buy the bike you like and don't worry about IF someone rides with you.

Also, have you looked at the new Low Rider? the adjustable bars and seat are kind of nice. I am hoping to get to ride one soon.

I had an 09' Street Glide, traded it before I got my seasonal layoff for a Triumph Street Triple R and 4k..... long story short, a month later I got a promotion.
I do miss the SG but I'm saving for a 14' Street Bob, best bang for the buck bike Harley has.
Price one out on their site, you can get pretty much whatever you need for way less than a SG or even a bone stock Slim, of which I really liked.
Good Luck.

Bought my first bike, a Road King Custom, because I sold my wife on all the rides WE would do together. Her longest trip was 90 minutes each way. I did enjoy the stability of the RK but longed for better handling and, well, fun.
Hurricane Sandy took the Road King and a year ago i bought a new Dyna (FXDC). This bike is so much fun. Go ride the dyna. It should sell itself.

Test ride and see for yourself. I mean rent one for a weekend to really see if that's what you want. That's the only real way to find out. Test rides are worthless in my book.

my wife wants to learn and of course I want her to. But I will really miss our closeness we have riding together.

I ride 2 up all the time on my dyna. No big deal. Drop 2 hundo for an extra two up seat. SB is going to be way more fun than a touring if you are not touring. It is literally a night a day difference even though the bikes are very similar. The weight difference makes a dyna much more snappy, and you can ride it much more aggressively than you can a Winnebago. Seems like a no brainer.

It sounds like a Dyna would fit your needs really well. When I purchased my FXD the stock seat about killed me, I added a sundowner seat... then a mustang wide vintage & piggy back shocks. The bikes one of the lightest big twins, 29 deg rake handles in town and on the highway very well and rides like a dream. If needed you can add a comfortable pillion to the mustang in a matter of minutes. All day comfort

If you're looking at the Dyna line of bikes check the Switchback. I've been really happy with mine. With the stock seat the wife and I can take all day rides easily and the hard bags hold everything we need to carry. I was looking at getting a Fatbob until I realized that I could spend just a little more and get the windshield,, floorboards and hard bags.

Buy a Street Bob. She has her own bike, if she ever wants to get on the back, make her pay for whatever parts you need...

I went from bagger to street bob. Like you long trips were out and I just mainly use my bikes for comuters to work.

Light weight and fast. Better than big and bulky for me.
