Default Wide glide first ride....few questions

Sooner or later I'm going to stop asking silly questions so bear with me guys. Been out of the game several years and feel like a rookie starting all over again. My first harley was bought new so I didn't have to wrench on it much, it was turn key and go. Buying a 2002 WG I expected a few bugs to work out.

So I spent the day yesterday trying to prepare it to be a reliable bike. Changed the engine oil myself to Mobil 1 20w-50 synthetic v twin oil and chrome KN filter. Wasn't to bad of a job at all. I went with a KN oil filter because I'm sold on having the nut on filter to remove with a ratchet easily. I was surprised to see metal shavings on the oil plug magnet but after some research that is normal. Wasn't much and I suppose that means the magnet did its job. Has 16000 miles on it and seems to run like a top. Took a good ride on it afterwards and nothing gave me any trouble. Rides smooth and strong. I'm suprised how well it handles. I always thought and heard the WG was more of a handful due to the rake. Honestly I felt as nimble as I did on my sportster just heavier and stronger. My first big twin and although it's a 88ci it has monster bottom end Torque I'm not used to. Almost as if it had a power band and when it kicks in it could almost throw me off the seat lol. There's bikes with lots more power than this for sure but if this had any more I dunno what I would do with it. I'm not a hot rod rider so it's more than enough for me.

Ok so the question. After stopping by a buddy's house we noticed the front wheel is bent!! Just ever so slightly I can see a change in contour of the line. It seems to roll smooth and true. With such a skinny tire up front a good pot hole could do that easily I'm thinking. It doesn't seem to be a problem and tire holds air good and rolls smooth. Should I even worry about it? Honestly if he hadn't put a up close eagle eye on it I never woulda noticed.

2....I posted about the hypercharger before. A guy wants to trade air cleaner off a 1200 sportster for the hypercharger. I don't like the HC but I dunno if the air cleaner of a sportster will work on the 88??

The Sporty is an EVO motor and you are on a Twin Cam now. I do not think the AC are interchangeable however I have been wrong before lol. As for the rim I am assuming its Spoked? If so I would just have the spokes adjusted to true the wheel up. Shouldnt be too much to have it done. As for the 88 being enough you say that now but give it some time . I had an 88b on my softail and when I went to my current 103 WG I want even more out of it

Johnny,
I have had my 99 WG for a little over 2 years and I still think the 88ci has plenty of power. As far as the handling of a WG I think they handle just fine. We took ours on the BRP riding 2 up she performed flawlessly. Again I don't get in a hurry very often so my normal cruising speed is around 70 on the interstate and the WG loves to eat up some miles. She is just as happy on the twists and turns of the mountain back roads.

One word of caution though. The 88 WG will sneak up on you. The book says their top speed is 95 MPH. That is a lie. Mine is stock and will easily go 100. Just the other day I was cruising and enjoying a beautiful sunny 75 degree relaxing ride when a trooper pulled along side and gave me a slow it down signal. I looked at my speedo and it was reading 90MPH. The little 88 wasn't even breaking a sweat. :0. Luckily the trooper was in a good mood.

I'll never see 95 on a bike lol. Call me a grandpa rider but I bought it to cruise, relax, smell the country air, and have fun. Going nearly 100mph doesn't interest or impress me in the slightest. So I stand by the 88 being plenty for me. I live in rural Kentucky on a 1 lane back road near a amish community. My ride yesterday was a 30mph cruise down old rural roads and enjoyed every slow second of it

Great story wide glide lol. Trooper must have been late for donut meeting with the guys. I dunno what mine will do and probably will never find out

Johnny,
We are on the same page. It is not my norm to go that fast. I was very surprised when I looked down and saw that speed. It didn't feel that fast. My point was that the 88ci has way plenty of power for me.
