Tomorrow will be the last day for me to ride to work. Plan a nice 100 mile ride and a service appointment at 1:30 PM. Will be right at 14000 miles. Wanted to get the oil changed before winter stops me from riding any more. Will wait for the spring to get new tires. Will have all winter to debate the switch to the LR S.
What do you think you could get for your bike? Sell it outright or trade? The dealership had a S with the 117 motor and a 2 bros exhaust. They wanted 22 Gs out the door.

Not sure. In the past, I sold all my motorcycles privately. Have never traded a bike towards another bike. So, seeing what I could get on a trade towards an S will be a first for me.
I have heard how well HDs hold their value. I have $17K in my current bike ($14500 for the bike, $2000 in Stage 1 parts, and $500 I paid the dealer to install everything). All servicing (1K, 5K, 10K, and 15K) done with AMS for the motor and trans at the dealership.
Did your rear tire wear evenly or did it "block" off? Uneven wear could be related to riding solo with high rear tire pressure.
The reason I'm asking is I usually get 8k out of sportbike tires and 10-12k on cruiser tires.
That's amazing wear! I get about 2500 miles ( or 5 trackday sessions) out of my supercorsa's. The middle is ok but the side edges are worn smooth. Guess I need to ride my sportbike in a straight line. But then, what's the point...

Don't expect any of that back. I don't care if you've put $25,000 in extras on your bike, the dealer will give you book value, just like it was completely stock. Then he'll turn right around and charge the guy who buys your bike extra $$$$ for all the add ons that he gave you nothing for.

I know that to be the truth. The law that dealers (car or motorcycle) follow that says "give book value no matter what extras have been done and turn around and sell hyping all the extras" came down with Moses.
When I was looking at HD dealers online back in 2015, everyone of them that had a loaded used bike was hyping "all the extras that came with the bike" in their ads.
I have used cycletrader to sell my last two bikes. The first time I used in 2011, it worked out real nicely for me and the buyer. The second time I used in 2015, I dealt with lots of time wasting tire-kickers.
I will at least hear what my dealer has to offer. I do plan on taking the HD 1/4 fairing, Bung King brackets, HD clamps, and Superbrace fork brace off the bike. I would use all of it on any new LR S. That is at least $500 in stuff I shelled out for.
FWIW, a large dealer in the Houston area offered me $8K for trade in on my 2014 LR....I passed.
How far below book value were they?
I never traded a bike before but have heard some people on this forum getting some decent prices. I have always heard about HDs "holding their value." Guess I will find out how well.

For what it's worth, I got just over 5k on my 04 salvage-title wide glide with 41k miles when I traded it on the LR. Some caveats though:
1. They screwed up and didn't appraise it as a salvage title. By the time they figured out the deal was already done
2. They had a deal going on where they gave you over the actual value. Any other day they would have given me about $3500 for it. That's before they see it's a salvage title.
Had I held onto the bike, I probably could have sold it private party for about 6-7k if I waited (the way I had it set up, pulls a premium in CA...) but I saw the 5k as a trade off for not having to wait months to do it. Think where you are geographically may have something to do with it too. "Club/Thug" dyna's pull a huge premium out here, hell even blank slates, compared to other states.

I'm not sure of actual book value...my bike has 11,990 miles and had I worked the dealer, probably could have bumped the trade to 8500, but I'm not really lookin' to get rid of the bike. I was curious what kind of trade they would do, and this was just at one dealer.
On ebay, 2014-2015 LRs are for sale at 9900-12,900 with much lower miles than mine and I'm sure they allow for some haggling room as well.
