Hey thats not a bad idea. What exactly did you change on the sideplates, Im thinking cut/file the notches a little deeper?
Mine were not Harley ... I elongated the holes so they would fit on the bolts and I packed out the back bolts so it was nearly parallel with the other ... not ideal but it worked.
I made some stainless spacers to space mine further from the struts as without them, I really had to tweak the sissybar/rack assembly to get it in....didn't seem right.
Damn I need to clean my bike!

Yeah...I was polishing my sliders on a buffing wheel last night shortly before taking the pics. Afterwards, I realized I should've covered my bike. At least all the holes leading into the engine are covered.
I have the solo rack on my 07 Super Glide -- it went on reasonably smoothly first try. I did have to adjust the geometry of the rack a little bit to make it go on and off easily, but nothing extreme. (OK, I had to grab one of the locking ears with padded pliers and give a goodish twist.)
The docking hardware doesn't have any adjustments, so as long as you have the right hardware it shouldn't be the problem.

I had to shim mine out with washers a bit. I would suggest this:
Loosen up the screws holding on the sideplates to the sissy bar and install the setup on the bike. Then snug down the screws. That should make it line up properly to the bike.

All this talk about squeezing sideplates, taking out the bolts to make 'em fit, hitting with a rubber malet.[sm=wtf.gif]Kinda defeats the purpose of being detachable, doesn't it?
Mark, this has been brought up alot here on the forum. Some guys received spacers for the rear mount and alot of us didn't. If this is the problem all you have to do is put 3-4 washers between the side fender struts and the docking bolt. If this doesn't work putting your sideplates on without any effort whatsoever, take them back to your squealer and tell them you want to replace the sideplates. Tim
