I prepped, painted and installed a Reckless fairing on a Softail but not the Dyna one yet. I had asked Reckless when the Dyna version first came out(around December) if they could sell it without radio and speakers, and they said no, they only sold them complete at that time, so I bought one from Tsukayu instead because it came with the mounts. The quality was fair compared to others and only required a little prep to get right(the softail version that is).
I have the softail version of the reckless fairing, I thought the quality was decent for $300 + $50 shipping. Fiberglass construction seems fairly sturdy, parts fit together well, the gellcoat just needed to be scuffed, primed and painted. I would guess the Dyna version is similar construction.
I have one on my Wide Glide currently. I purchased the one for the road king I believe.... reason being is the width was the same. I read every thread I could and decided to give it a shot. I'm pretty happy with it. Now that could be because I've never had a fairing before or just plain lucky. Instead of ordering online, I gave them a call. The Dyna fairing was still being mocked up around October when I ordered. Lady was extremely nice and helpful. Overall, I am very pleased with the Reckless fairing
I dealt with Reckless a few months ago. Everything went well except for slow shipping. The batwing fairing is a good quality product. They got in a bit of trouble last year for I think building permit violations and were also accused of environmental violations but I think they got off on that. I just ordered a wind screen from them and shipping is still slow.
Pros..
Personally I think it looks really good on the bike. That was the main reason I bought it.
The stereo system is pretty to very good. Bluetooth is really cool. Great for playing tunes. FM radio is also very good. But I run a fatcat pipe so music is not as nice as it could be with a quieter pipe.
Cons..
The quality is average. The edges of the fairing showed needed improvement. Too many holes and not a refined finish along the edges. Not super terrible, but not Harley quality. I don't know anything about laying fiberglass. So not sure what part of the building process was not controlled real well.
The windshield sucks. Just a roughly cut piece of flat plexiglass. They only have the 5" version available. And no 3rd party makes a replacement shield for the dyna line of reckless fairings. They're different then the touring models.
No side wind deflectors available at this time.
So wind deflection is compromised with the available options. Actually I think wind deflection sucks on the reckless. Even the wife commented how much BETTER the Memphis fairing is better.
I just put my Memphis shades batwing back on with the 6 1/2 spoiler windshield and wind deflectors on and it blows away the reckless for wind management.
I'll keep it maybe and make my own windshield and deflectors at some time. But for now the Memphis is staying on.
