Default Easiest way to lace a wheel?

I'm in England right now but will be back in a couple days, going to finally be able to lace up my new 16" rims to my stock hubs. I have seen a couple of videos and it doesn't look to hard just got a couple questions.

1: Is it easier to lace one spoke at a time to the hub and rim or can you lace the hub first and then lace the rim? (Just trying to find the easiest route)

2: Did you true the wheel yourself or take it to be tried professionally?

when i lace them i use zip ties to hold my cross pattern, just loose not really tight so you can still move the wheel around. also tape the **** out of the ring so that your spokes do no scratch it to all hell. Take your time, get your cross patterns correct. for trueing, man i have trued wheels in 5 min and others took an hour or more. For this I use my buddy that does dirtbike wheels all day long. takes him 1/2 the time... and his tooling is better than mine for truing wheels hahaha

I have a guy that can lace and true them. But he told me if it's already laced and just needed trued then the cost and turn around time would be cheaper and quicker. I'd love to give lacing them myself a shot, just the truing seems to be quite the process

Lace hub first, then start your pattern and leave everything lose until all the spokes are in.I use a small cordless drill take up the slack after it is done. and as JKR said tape up the rims. Good luck

If your not getting paid to do it take or time it will get done. I've have done it several deferent ways, installed the spokes on the right side of the hub and wheel then flip it over and install the left side then put it on the stand to true up the wheel to the hub. After your first twenty times of doing it you'll get faster at it.
Keep the Video close to you for help good luck and take our time

I did it exactly as described in my FLH manual. I think it is also in the Dyna manual. I was doing 4 wheels at the same time, once I did the first one, I was able to do the next three in 9 minutes each. Once you know, it goes fast. Truing is another story, as stated earlier, it can take 20 minutes or it can take 3 hours. I actually did my final truing with the rubber installed just trying to see how good I could get it. Both front and back are within .007" with the rubber on. Smooth as silk.

Here is my 16 X 5.00 laced to the Dyna rear hub. (you can see the manual in the picture)
