Question Putting Carb on FI engine

Over the winter, my nephew had the engine on his 2004 EG done up for performance with gear driven cams, jugs, and a whole lot of other performance stuff. He spend nearly $5K on the engine and a few weeks back he blew out the rings in the front jug and he wants to put another engine on it so he can ride while he takes time to rebuild the original engine.

We located another engine locally, a 2006 that comes with a 6 speed and is fuel injected and we are trying to find out how difficult and expensive it is to change the EFI to run with his carb setup...anybody here done this? Is it practical?

I'd look at swapping the other way. EFI is far superior.

No offense but such a bad idea.
Unless I build a ground up chopper otherwise no way.

Been there, done that. 07 Street Bob - EFI to CV 40 Swap made easy. Pingle makes the adapter for the petcock and J&P has them. Use any Big Twin CV 40 carb and manifold from either an Evo or Twin Cam. Both throttle cables will work just fine, no need to change them. The easiest way to do the ignition is with a Thunder Heart Stand Alone ignition system. Be sure to use new gaskets on the intake manifold to insure no air leaks. If you are running something like a Ness Big Sucker, not to worry. EFI & carb both mate up perfectly. PM me if you need any more info on the swap.

His bike is already carbed so should be easy...everything is already there.

Just bolt on the carb and rejet...should be good to go.

If the new bike is coming with the throtle body and all sensors, could get a Thundermaxx ecm and go FI.

His EG has a carburetor, not EFI. The engine we are looking at is from an EFI bike. As far as I can find out from my research, all we would need to do is remove the EFI throttle body and head temp sensor and install the intake and put on the carburetor as-is and tweak. Is this correct?

Hey Galveston, is the Flagship Hotel still there? My Grandmother ran the housekeeping dept. from when it opened in '60's until 1971.

Oops, I meant new engine not bike, but then you would need a fuel pump, etc.

Anyway, the motor doesn't care how it gets fuel...as long as it gets there.

Might be worth it to get a smaller carb and jet for the temporary motor and leave the big motors carb alone...

Hurricane Ike destroyed the Flagship Hotel in '08 and what remained was demolished in '11. An amusement park was built on the pier.

He is talking about getting a S&S setup or a Mikuni for the big engine. He just wants something to get back on the road so he can take his time with the rebuild.

I am going to go by the salvage yard and look over the engine today. The guy I talked to over the phone doesn't know what bike it came off of, all he knew is that it was an EFI TC88 with a 6 speed and had 14K miles on it.
