My new Street Bob has about 1500 miles on it so far. I've opened it up a bit more since my 1K service. But today, I let 'er rip, bolting from 3000 rpm to 4500 in 4th. Holy crap, this thing just took off like crazy! I was holding on to those mini apes for dear life! Felt like a hot rod.
Anyway, I may be holding off a Stage 1 for a while.

I`m a lil eager to be able to open her up myself. lol. Ive only got just a lil over 600 miles on my fxdl but the miles are ticking away quickly. Weatherman is forecasting a beautiful weekend.
Exactly! I'm not very nice on mine and have been that way since day one when I bought it. 14k miles later still going strong with no problems
This is me too! HD ran the bikes when they came off the assembly line. Just a few heat cycles and the engine is set. Been riding some form of bike for 40 years and no catastophic failure yet!
I assume all the ones putting 1k miles on before opening her up are new to machines like this and are just following procedure. It's a big investment so I can understand wanting to "do it right".
I'd say that anyone with 500 miles on it can safely run er up to 4500 RPMs without problems. My rev limiter is set at 6200.
The only bike I bought new was a 2003 883 sporty. I let it rip the first day I had it.
I got a carbed 88 in my WG and it's all I can do to hang onto the mini apes when it's wide open. Can only imagine how the 103 would run . If I have to hang on for dear life with the old 88 then I don't need a 103 lol
A dealer/mechanic who has been in the business for years once told me to maybe take it easy for the first 100 mi. then just ride it like you normally would. Took his advice and many bikes later never had a problem.
Yes, I read alot about different break in theories and went the way I went. I don't normally ride aggressively, so no loss in my mind. But the exhilaration of opening the bike up and letting it run hard is pretty nuts. Hmmm. May have to head out tonight and hit the interstate for a few miles...
